In 1959 Eternity Magazine featured a twin set of articles[5][6] which ignited the
debate[7] and the use of the idiom from the titles: what Christ must "be." This asked what
Christ must "be" to the one accepting Christ... must he "be Lord" in order to "be Savior,"
both, etc. Ten years later (1969), Charles Ryrie used this idiom in a chapter title,
verbatim!,[8] quoting exactly the title of the articles in Eternity Magazine, Sep 1959. This
idiom, what Christ must "be", was used to derive and discuss the implications for
salvation associated with what Christ is. One author, Arthur W. Pink (18861952), had
already associated Christ's Lordship with surrendering to it as essential at the initial point.
[9] Therefore the controversy dates back to before 1959, to at least before 1953 in the
case of Pink, and shows the subject's connection to evangelism. This should not be
considered a modern issue as Baptist theologian John Gill in his 18th century work in
exposition of Colossians 2:6 deals with an emphasis on Lordship.
In 1988, John F. MacArthur Jr published the first edition of "The Gospel According to
Jesus".[10] By defining salvation by what it produces and what salvation will not fail to
produce, (not only glorification, but good works, repentance, faith, sanctification,
yieldedness, and obedience[2]) the book not only heavily spread the extent of the debate,
but the debate expanded in scope, from questions about conversion issues, to questions
about what is also necessary, and who it is who does what, throughout the Christian life.
The controversy moved to the forefront of the evangelical world in the late 1980s when
John F. MacArthur argued that the one-third of all Americans who claimed to be born
again according to a 1980 Gallup poll reflected millions who are deceived, possessing a
false, soul-destroying assurance.[17]
There was lots of published response, particularly from seminary faculty. For example, an
early review of the 1988 edition of The Gospel According to Jesus appeared in a JanMar
1989 Bibliotheca Sacra article by Darrell L Bock.[18] Also in 1989, Charles Ryrie
published So Great Salvation and Zane C. Hodges published Absolutely Free! A Biblical
Reply to Lordship Salvation. The two 1989 book publications confined the direct debate
largely to their authors' footnotes, but the Bock article, in addition to specifically giving
points of disagreement and agreement with MacArthur's book, added definitional
discussion of terms such as "disciple" and "Lordship," and introduced the consideration
of rhetorical devices such as overstatement, into the discussion.[19] However, the debate
was on. Since both MacArthur's and Hodges' books were published by Zondervan, some
bookstores displayed them together under the banner, "Which One is Right?".
Yet very soon on their heels, in 1992 before the revised edition of MacArthur's work, an
anthology of responses from various faculty of reformed seminaries appeared on the
subject[20] and include criticisms of both MacArthur and Hodges, especially in Michael
Horton's contribution, "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover."
MacArthur later published Faith Works (1993) and Hodges published the second edition
of his earlier title, The Gospel Under Siege, in 1992. Two ministries, The Grace
Evangelical Society, founded in 1986, and the Free Grace Alliance, founded in 2004,
arose with the purpose of advancing free grace soteriological views which opposed some
concepts introduced by proponents of Lordship salvation. Each group contributed
numerous books, journal articles and pamphlets detailing the problems of Lordship
salvation or its alternatives.
"Free Grace" became the popular term for the opposing camp in the Lordship salvation
debate, and for the ideas against Lordship salvation by authors such as Charles Ryrie,
Chuck Swindoll, Charles Stanley, Norman Geisler, and Bill Bright.[citation needed]
While free grace was traditionally largely affirmed in Protestantism, and the "Free Grace
view" affirms good works are a proper response to salvation, the Free Grace view argues
they should not be taken as the only or sine qua non evidence of one's salvation or
righteous standing before God.
Proponents of Lordship salvation, on the other hand, criticize opponents as advocating an
acquiescence in sin by allowing greatly sinful behavior to exist together with the same
assurance of salvation as someone who does not currently allow greatly sinful behavior,
but is to some degree subduing sin.
WHO ARE THE MEN WHO REJECT "LORDSHIP SALVATION?"
Norman L. Geisler is a Christian systematic theologian, philosopher, and apologist. He
is the co-founder of two non-denominational Evangelical seminaries (Veritas Evangelical
Seminary[1] and Southern Evangelical Seminary[2]). He holds a Ph.D. in philosophy
from Loyola University (JESUIT TRAINED!)
Charles Frazier Stanley is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church in northern Atlanta,
Georgia. He is the founder and president of In Touch Ministries and also served two one-
year terms as president of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1984 to 1986. He has an
evangelical and dispensationalist theology.
Here is Matthew 25:30 as it is found in the King James version of the Bible:
And CAST ye the UNPROFITABLE SERVANT into OUTER DARKNESS:
there shall be WEEPING and GNASHING OF TEETH. (Matthew 25:30)
This is what Pastor Charles Stanley (Atlanta, GA) wrote regarding Matthew 25:30
from his Eternal Security book.
The final verse of this parable is so severe that MANY COMMENTATORS
assume it is a description of HELL. It is NOT.
Where is THIS PLACE represented by the OUTER DARKNESS in Jesus
parables? To be in the OUTER DARKNESS is to be IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD
but outside the circle of men and women whose faithfulness on this earth EARNED
THEM a special rank or position of authority. The OUTER DARKNESS
represents NOT so much an actual place as it does a sphere of influence and
PRIVILEGE.
Concerning the GNASHING OF TEETH Charles Stanley goes on to say that these
people were
extremely FRUSTRATED with themselves and
As some are celebrated for their faithfulness, others will gnash their teeth
IN FRUSTRATION And
we DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG this time of rejoicing and sorrow WILL
LAST. Those whose works are burned up WILL NOT WEEP AND GNASH
THEIR TEETH FOR ETERNITY. [Charles Stanley: Eternal Security, Can
You Be Sure? Pages 124-127]
TRUE INTERPRETATION
If you read the full parable in Matthew 25:14-30 you will see that the Lord Jesus
Christ referred to the unprofitable servant as WICKED in Matthew 25:26
Are the WICKED going to enter the kingdom of Heaven along with the faithful? Not
according to Jesus Christ, the creator of all things.
So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever
the WICKED from among the just, And shall cast them into the FURNACE
OF FIRE: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:49-50)
Jesus said that the WICKED were going to be cast into the FURNACE OF
FIRE and that is where there is going to be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
- On a 1995 Insight for Living radio program, Swindoll was commenting on Galatians
1:8,9. Swindoll did not like the apostle Paul's viewpoint here, and said so. He then read a
poem by Sara Teasdale that talked about compromising: Swindoll said, "To learn to
compromise is the mark of a mature Christian." Teasdale's poem that Swindoll read on
the air follows:
"WISDOM -- When I have ceased to break my wings / Against the faultiness of
things / And learned that compromises wait / Behind each hardly opened gate /
When I can look Life in the eyes / Grown calm and very coldly wise / Life will
have given me the Truth / And taken in exchange -- my youth." (Sara
Teasdale:c.1916 -- emphasis added.)
The fact is that Sara Teasdale never claimed to be a "Christian," and died a suicide. Yet,
Chuck Swindoll prefers her views to those of the apostle Paul!
ZANE HODGES
Zane Hodges from the book Absolutely Free,
On the issue of sin Sin is not an issue for mankind. Christ already took care of
the sin issue for mankind by His death on the cross. Therefore Christs
substitutionary death is not an essential part of the gospel message.
On the issue of eternal life Since lack of eternal life is the issue (as sin has
already been dealt with), mortal man must believe that Christ is the guarantor of
eternal life.
A Summary of Free Grace Theology from Zane Hodges book Absolutely Free:
Repentance is not essential to the gospel message. In no sense is repentance
related to
saving faith (Zane Hodges, Absolutely Free, 144-46).
Faith is a human act, not a gift from God (AF 219). It occurs in a decisive
moment but does
not necessarily continue (AF xiv, 107). True faith can be subverted, be
overthrown, collapse,
or even turn to unbelief (AF 111).
To "believe" unto salvation is to believe the facts of the gospel (AF 37-39).
"Trusting Jesus"
means believing the "saving facts" about Him (AF 39), and to believe those facts
is to
appropriate the gift of eternal life (AF 40). Those who add any suggestion of
commitment
have departed from the New Testament idea of salvation (AF 27).
Spiritual fruit is not guaranteed in the Christian life (AF 73-75, 119). Some
Christians spend
their lives in a barren wasteland of defeat, confusion, and every kind of evil (AF
119-25).
Heaven is guaranteed to believers (AF 112) but Christian victory is not (AF 118-
19). One
could even say "the saved" still need salvation (AF 195-99). Christ offers a whole
range of
postconversion deliverance experiences to supply what Christians lack (AF 196).
But these
other "salvations" all require the addition of human works, such as obedience,
submission,
and confession of Jesus as Lord (AF 74, 119, 124-25, 196). Thus God is
dependent to
some degree on human effort in achieving deliverance from sin in this life (AF
220).
Submission is not in any sense a condition for eternal life (AF 172). "Calling on
the Lord"
means appealing to Him, not submitting to Him (AF 193-95).
Nothing guarantees that a true Christian will love God (AF 130-31). Salvation
does not
necessarily even place the sinner in a right relationship of harmonious fellowship
with God
(AF 145-60).
- If people are sure they believe, their faith must be genuine (AF 31). All who
claim Christ by faith as Savior--even those involved in serious or prolonged sin--
should be assured that they belong to God come what may (AF 32, 93-95). It is
dangerous and destructive to question the salvation of professing Christians (AF
18-19, 91-99). The New Testament writers never questioned the reality of their
readers' faith (AF 98).
It is possible to experience a moment of faith that guarantees heaven for
eternity (AF 107), then to turn away permanently and live a life that is utterly
barren of any spiritual fruit (AF 118-19). Genuine believers might even cease to
name the name of Christ or confess
Christianity (AF 111).
Then the man who really pushed this anti-Lordship doctrine among Baptists was
Jack Hyles. Many fundamentalists are anti-Lordship, but Hyles' influence is
unmatched.
Hyles wrote a book called "Enemies of Soulwinning". In that book, the FIRST
"enemy of soulwinning" is "Lordship Salvation". How is Lordship Salvation an
enemy of soulwinning you may ask? BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GET BIG
NUMBERS WITH IT!
You can't run people through a quick 123-repeat after me prayer, if you present
them with the real Gospel that confronts them with the reality that being saved
means being saved from a life of sin and that they need to turn their back on a
life of rebellion against God. No that's not how you get the big numbers in
fundyland so that you can brag about how many souls you "won to the Lord".
Sin is the Lord of every lost person and Jack Hyles taught that you can keep sin
as Lord while accepting Christ as Savior, if you just pray a prayer real quick, it will
only take 5 minutes of your time.
This false gospel of quick prayerism has damned thousands of people to hell with
a false assurance of salvation. It is an abomination before God and it should be
clearly and Biblically exposed as the heresy and false gospel that it is.
I will answer some of the arguments against Lordship Jack Hyles gives at the
end of this teaching.

WHAT DOES LORD MEAN AND WHAT DOES RECEIVING JESUS AS LORD
MEAN?
Let's talk about the name, the Lord Jesus Christ first. Lord and Christ are titles and Jesus
is a name. The name Jesus means - Jehovah saves. Christ is a word that means "anointed
one" or "Messiah". What does Lord mean?
LORD - 1. A master; a person possessing supreme power and authority; a ruler; a
governor. - 1828 Webster's Dictionary
So when someone says they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, they are believing in and
accepting Him for all that he is: Savior, Messiah, and LORD, in addition to His other
titles and offices like our High Priest. "[36] Therefore let all the house of Israel know
assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and
Christ." - Acts 2:36
"[6] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be
upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God,
The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" - Isaiah 9:6
When you receive Jesus as Lord, you are receiving Him as master, ruler, governor, and
king. A person who has supreme authority to tell you what to do. Where does the Bible
say we receive Jesus as Lord?:
"[6] As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:" -
Colossians 2:6
The Bible does overwhelmingly refer to Jesus as Lord FAR more than it does as Savior.
"[34] Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the
servant of sin." - John 8:34
"[16] Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye
are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
[17] But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
[18] Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
[19] I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have
yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so
now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
[20] For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
[21] What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of
those things is death.
[22] But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit
unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
[23] For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ
our Lord." - Romans 6:16-23
"[8] He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning." - I
John 3:8
"[2] Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to
the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of
disobedience:
[3] Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh,
fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of
wrath, even as others." - Ephesians 2:2,3
When you repent you realize that pleasing yourself by serving your flesh, the world, and
the devil is wicked and rebellious toward God, so you no longer WANT to serve the
flesh, the world and the devil, but instead want to serve Jesus Christ who died for you.
Repentance is a change of LORDS or change of masters, the BIBLE SAYS YOU
CANNOT SERVE TWO MASTERS:
"[24] No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other;
or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."
- Matthew 6:24
"[21] Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers
of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils." - I Corinthians 10:21
"[14] Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
[15] And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with
an infidel?
[16] And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the
living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their
God, and they shall be my people.
[17] Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and
touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
[18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the
Lord Almighty." - II Corinthians 6:14-18
"[21] And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two
opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people
answered him not a word." - I Kings 18:21
"[15] And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will
serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the
flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house,
we will serve the LORD." - Joshua 24:15
"[14] And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the
Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
[15] I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
[16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of
my mouth.
[17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of
nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and
naked:" - Revelation 3:14-17
Christ is Master(Lord) of the saved man:
"[5] But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries,
and enlarge the borders of their garments,
[6] And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
[7] And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
[8] But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are
brethren.
[9] And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in
heaven.
[10] Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ." - Matthew 23:5-
10
"[17] Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus,
saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
[18] And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith,
My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples." - Matthew
26:17,18
Master and Lord used interchangeably:
"[23] Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
[24] Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in,
and shall not be able.
[25] When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye
begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and
he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:" - Luke 13:23-25
AND THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN:
Jesus said, "[13] Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
[14] If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one
another's feet.
[15] For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
[16] Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he
that is sent greater than he that sent him." - John 13:13-16
Let's read it again:
"No servant can serve two masters" - Luke 16:13
So clearly we can see here that whenever someone is a servant, they always have a lord to
whom they are a servant of. Who are we as saved people servants of?
"[1] Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ" - Romans 1:1
"[22] For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise
also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
[23] Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men." - I Cor. 7:22
"[10] For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet
pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ." - Galatians 1:10
"[12] Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ" - Col. 4:12
"[1] James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ," - James 1:1
"[1] Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained
like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus
Christ:" - II Peter 1:1
"[1] Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified
by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:" - Jude 1:1
"[1] The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants
things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his
servant John:" - Revelation 1:1
The Bible says that after you are saved, sin does not have dominion over you anymore, it
does not rule your life as LORD:
"[14] For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under
grace.
[15] What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God
forbid.
[16] Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are
to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
[17] But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
[18] Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness." -
Romans 6:14-18
The Bible says if you are saved, you do not have the spirit of the world or love the world
anymore, the world does not dictate to you what your choices should be anymore:
"[12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God;
that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." - I Corinthians 2:12
"[15] Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the
world, the love of the Father is not in him.
[16] For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." - I John 2:15,16
When you get saved, you are no longer a child of the devil:
"[10] In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever
doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother." - I John
3:10
Salvation is change of LORDS. Repentance is turning from sin as lord to Jesus as Lord.
Faith is trusting in Jesus and the blood He shed for sin as the only way of salvation from
sin.
"[21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall
save his people from their sins." - Matthew 1:21
"[26] Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in
turning away every one of you from his iniquities." - Acts 3:26
---
I Call It Heresy! (by A.W. Tozer)
"[14] As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in
your ignorance:" - I Peter 1:14
What a tragedy that in our day we often hear the gospel appeal made
on this kind of basis:
"Come to Jesus! You do not have to obey anyone. You do not have to
change anything. You do not have to give up anything, alter anything,
surrender anything, give back anything - just come to Him and believe
in Him as Savior!" So they come and believe in the Savior. Later on, in
a meeting or conference, they will
hear another appeal: "Now that you have received Him as Savior, how
would you like to take Him as Lord?"
The fact that we hear this everywhere does not make it right. To urge
men and women to believe in a divided Christ is bad teaching for no
one can receive half of Christ, or a third of Christ, or a quarter
of the Person of Christ! We are not saved by believing in an
office nor in a work.

STRAWMAN ARGUMENT:
"LORDSHIP SALVATION IS 'MAKING JESUS THE LORD OF YOUR LIFE IN
EVERY WAY BEFORE YOU CAN BE SAVED'"
I have never heard anyone preach this and if they did it would be a false gospel. We do
not preach works salvation whatsoever and works salvation is a damnable false gospel.
No one has to DO any works in order to gain the approval of God or to merit eternal
salvation. You do not have to clean up your life in order to come to Jesus Christ. You
come as your are, a filthy, rotten, wicked sinner, BUT Jesus will not LEAVE you as you
are. He will change you into a new creature in Christ.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new." - II Corinthians 5:17
STRAWMAN ARGUMENT:
"IF A PERSON SINS AS A CHRISTIAN, THEN THAT MEANS JESUS ISN'T THE
LORD OF THEIR LIFE. SO LORDSHIP SALVATION IS IMPOSSIBLE."
One of the most ridiculous strawman arguments hurled by anti-Lordship proponents is
that those who preach that you must receive Jesus as Lord at salvation are preaching that
a convert will have perfect obedience to Christ after salvation. I have never heard anyone
preach such a foolish idea. When you turn from self as being master to Christ as being
Master, you strive to obey Him in all things. This obedience will not be perfect and it will
be a daily struggle, but there WILL be a struggle and a striving to obey. They will not be
a state of contentment with sin being master and having dominion over that person if they
are genuinely saved.
Jack Hyles pushed this nonsense. Here is an exerpt from his book "Enemies of
Soulwinning":
"Exactly what do we mean when we say, "Lordship Salvation"? We are talking about the
false doctrine that says that in order for a person to be saved, he must make Jesus the
Lord of his life. If that doctrine were true, then no one could be saved, because as long as
we are limited by these fleshly bodies, we will be unable to make Jesus totally the Lord of
our lives. This can happen only when we are like Him. I John 3:2, "Beloved, now are we
the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he
shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." - Jack Hyles
"3. David was saved when Jesus was not Lord of his life. All of us know the tragic
story of David and his sins. Was David saved? Yes, he was. Was Jesus Lord of his life? Of
course not. Look at Psalm 51:12a. David said, "Restore unto me the joy of my salvation."
He did not say, "Restore unto me Thy salvation." He was saved, but he was away from
God. Jesus was not Lord of his life. If Lordship salvation were true, then David lost his
salvation when he ceased to make Jesus Lord of his life." - Jack Hyles
I cannot believe that people accept this man's shallow twisting of the scriptures. The
idolatry of Hyles has truly blinded many to any type of discernment.
So just because someone sins that means Jesus is not their Lord? This is called a
STRAWMAN ARGUMENT. He created a strawman that does not exists and then
defeated it. No one defines submitting to Christ as Lord as sinlessness. That is a lie. Also,
teaching Lordship does not mean you are teaching can lose their salvation either, another
strawman and a lie from Hyles.
Just because King David sinned with Bathsheba and having her husband killed does
NOT mean that is what David did his whole life. After he sinned and was confronted by
the prophet Nathan he repented. David experienced the chastening of God on his life
because of this sin as a child of God and because he caused the enemies of God to
blaspheme his name. Nevertheless, David continued on for the rest of his life striving to
obey God.
Then Hyles tries to use Noah and Lot as further examples as to why Lordship Salavation
is wrong. His foolish argument is again, if someone sinned, OOPS Jesus was obviously
not Lord of their life! This is so shallow and childish it baffles the mind how anyone
could take this seriously who has even read the Bible through one time.
Just because Noah got drunk, does not mean Noah was a drunkard who drank all the
time! Noah was a preacher of righteousness for 120 years while the ark was building and
people want to use him as an excuse for sinful living as a Christian because there is one
incident with him recorded in scripture??!!
One of the most used examples people like to use to justufy sinful behavior as a Christian
is Lot. They say that Lot did wicked things, but the Bible says he was saved. Well let's
look at a few things.
First, of all look at the consequences of Lot's sin. His wife was lost. She had Sodom in
her heart because Lot moved his family there and her life ended by being turned into a
pillar of salt by God. She went to hell. "Remember Lot's wife." The Bible warns.
Next, Lot's daughters I believe were lost as well, the Bible never mentions their names
like their mother. Everytime we have saved a man which is mentioned by name in the
Bible it mentions his wife's name. They got Lot drunk and raped him, the Bible says he
didn't perceive when they laid down or got up he was blacked out drunk. The children
they had became two wicked heathen nations: the Moabites and the Ammonites - more
proof they were lost.
Lot's two son-in-laws were left behind in Sodom and perished in the fire and brimstone.
They thought Lot was joking when he told them they had to leave because Lot's
testimony was bad.
So you think it's good to use a man for an example who was saved yet all his family went
to hell?
The other point that needs to be made is that the Bible does give evidence of Lot's
salvation. Let's read:
"[6] And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an
overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
[7] And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
[8] (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his
righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)" - II Peter 2:6-8
The Bible says Lot was vexed "with the filthy conversation of the wicked" and vexed
everyday by everything he saw and heard. That is more than can be said for many
professing Christians today who see and hear wicked things and actually intentionally put
a TV in their house to see and hear wicked things and yet it does NOT vex their soul.
As for the issue of when he offered up his daughters to the perverted crowd to protect the
angels, this was a bad decision he made that day. This was not Lot prostituting his
daughters out in Sodom everyday. See the difference? Just because saved people mess up
and sin, does not mean their life is characterized by habitual and unrepentant sin.
Just because Peter denied Christ in a weak moment, does NOT mean he kept denying
Him for the rest of his life. No, instead after Peter denied Christ, he wept bitterly and
repented. The result was that after Jesus ascended into heaven Peter preached the Gospel
to thousands of people and 8,000 people got saved after two sermons!
"A person can be saved and even call Jesus "Lord" without the Saviour actually being the
Lord of his life.
Yes, Jesus is Lord. He is Lord of the universe, and, of course, we believe that He is Lord.
However, to believe that in order to be saved one must make Him the Lord of his life is
just another form of salvation by works.
May God help me day by day to give Him more control of my life and yield more and
more to Him so that He can become day by day more and more the Lord of my actions,
my will and my life; but, I must realize that I am hampered by this body of clay, and that
there is a battle being raged. I must yield myself to Him constantly, making Him more
and more the Lord of my life, but I am looking forward to the day when I shall be like
Him, and He, in fact, will be the Lord of my life. " - Jack Hyles
So basically Hyles believes that Christ will not be Lord of his life until he gets to heaven
and the only way that Christ is Lord presently is Lord over the universe...So Christ is
Lord of all the stars and planets, but not over His supposed saved children?
Jack Hyles was a wolf, plain and simple and caused much damage to Christianity with his
preaching and teaching.
I will leave you with a description of the second coming if Jesus which shows who Jesus
really is because His title is written for all to see:
"[11] And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was
called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
[12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a
name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
[13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word
of God.
[14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in
fine linen, white and clean.
[15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations:
and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness
and wrath of Almighty God.
[16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS,
AND LORD OF LORDS." - Revelation 19:11-16
