THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL:
A FORUM ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

RATIONALE

On September 25, 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the
planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each
goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years. These goals are known as the
Sustainable Development Goals or more popularly, the Global Goals. For the goals to be
reached, everyone needs to do their part: governments, the private sector, civil society and
people like the youth.

To this end, the Araling Panlipunan area organizes a forum entitled Think Global, Act
Local: A Forum on Sustainable Development Goals. The forum will give the participants an
overview of the Global Goals, the specific challenges that our city faces, and the vital role that
the youth can play in achieving these goals.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the forum, the participants will be able to:

1. Explain what the Global Goals are;

2. Explore ways for the youth to achieve the Global Goals; and

3. Articulate the importance of working together to achieve the Global Goals.

PARTICIPANTS

The intended participants of the forum shall be the Grade 9 students.

DATE, TIME, & VENUE

The forum shall be held on March 8, 2017, 3:00 PM, at the AVR.

SPEAKERS PROFILE

The speaker for the forum shall be Mr. Mark T. Pealver. Mr. Pealver:

Works as a Policy and Advocacy Specialist at Interface Development Interventions, Inc.

(IDIS);

Studied Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Mindanao;

Studied AB Mass Communication at the Ateneo de Davao University; and

Is a founding member of the University of Mindanao Legal Advocacy Network (ULAN).

forum aims to:
