2.4 ODU Mounting

There are three types of mounting for the ODU: pole mounting, wall
mounting and 19-inch rack mounting types. The tools for installation are
listed in Table 2-1.

Caution: 1. How to use small and large O-rings are shown in the
following table. Two (small and large) O-rings are
attached in 18-38 GHz band Andrew/RFS direct mount
antenna. 13/15 GHz band antenna does not have small
O-ring (Small O-ring is not used for Andrew/RFS direct
mount antenna). If the small O-ring is used for ODU
direct mount installation, a gap may occur between
ODU and antenna for RF interface. This may cause
transmit or receive level down.

ROI-S04934 INITIAL LINEUP

3. INITIAL LINEUP
This paragraph provides instructions for initial lineup of the [ ] GHz [ ]
MB digital radio system. Included is information on start-up, shut-down,
antenna orientation and lineup test for the equipment.

If orderwire communication is required, connect the X0818A OW/RX

LEV MONITOR to the ODU. The OW/RX LEV MONITOR is operated
with a dry battery (6F22/9V).

Notes: 1. Insert the battery with correct polarity.

2. Do not charge the dry battery.

3. When the OW/RX LEV MONITOR is not being used for long
period of time, remove the battery to avoid damage from
battery leakage and corrosion.

4. Set to the OW switch to ON when orderwire is used. If the

OW indicator is not lit even after the OW switch is set to
ON, replace the battery since the battery becomes weak.
Warning: 1. The 43 V DC power is superimposed on the center conductor
of the IF coaxial cable between the MDP and the TRP.
Connecting test equipment directly to this terminal may
damage it and touching the coaxial cable core may cause
electrical shock.
2. Persons performing servicing must take necessary steps to
avoid electro-static discharge which may damage the modules
on the MDP or cause error. Wear a conductive wrist strap
connected to the grounded (FG) jack on the front of the
equipment shelf. This will minimize static build-up during
servicing.
3. Do not disconnect the IF cable between the MDP and the TRP
in operating condition, to avoid damaging the MDP and TRP.
Do not remove/connect the IF cable with the MDP power ON,
turn the MDP power OFF before connecting/disconnecting the
IF cable.
4. After turning ON the equipment, wait at least 1 minute before
turning it OFF again. Repeatedly turning the power ON and
OFF within a short interval may cause the MDP to fail.
5. Contact NEC before program download on the LCT is
performed. Equipment may not function correctly with
improper operation.
Caution: 1. Be careful that top surface of the MDP is considerably hot.

3-1
INITIAL LINEUP ROI-S04934

3.1 Start-up
For procedures of equipment start-up refer to para. 3.3.1 of the MDP
equipment description in this Manual.

3.2 Shut-down
For procedures of equipment shut-down refer to para. 3.3.2 of the MDP
equipment description in this Manual.

3.3 IDU and ODU Equipment Setting

The setting of the IDU is performed by personal computer. The procedures
is referred to in para. 3.4 of MDP Equipment Description in this Manual.

The setting of radio frequency and TX output power are performed by

personal computer. The procedures of radio frequency and TX output
power setting are referred to in para. 3.4 of the TRP Equipment
Description in this manual.

Notes: 1. Before antenna orientation, set transmitter power control

mode from ATPC to MTPC.

2. Before antenna orientation, set TX attenuator to 0dB for

transmitter power in MTPC mode.

3. When initial setting is performed, the personal computer

must be connect to the LCT jack. Remote setting through the
PNMS port is not possible since the antenna orientation is
yet to performed.

3.4 Antenna Orientation

After the initial setting has been completed, an antenna orientation is

performed between two stations according to the following procedures.

At each station, TX power is set to the value calculated by the

system design, but while antenna orientation, TX power should
be set to 0 dB in MTPC TX PWR mode so that TX power
becomes the maximum (TX power setting can be performed by
MTPC TX PWR item of Provisioning Data using LCT).
Note: The MTPC TX PWR is the item which sets up the quantity
of attenuation of transmitter power, and adjusts
transmitter power with the quantity of this attenuation.

*3; Varies depending on the cable length between the IDU and
ODU. (Apply the value on the On site test data.)

Notes: When TX Power is indicated less than minimum value in the

table above, check the following before suspecting of any
ODU damage;

1. When the TX frequency is changed, the relation of the TX/

RX frequency is correct for the Sub Band and ODU type
(High/Low).

2. The TX Power mute is not performed.

3.5.2 Orderwire Test

Step Procedure

1 Connect the OW/RX LEV MONITOR to the RX LEV MON

jack on the ODU (see Fig. 3-6),

2 Connect headset(s) to the EOW jack on the front panel of the

IDU and/or to EOW jack on the OW/RX LEV MONITOR (see
Figs. 3-5 and 3-6),
3 Press the CALL button switch on the front panel of the IDU,

Requirement: At opposite station, the buzzer on the IDU is

activated,

4 Check that orderwire telephone between stations can be

connected by using headsets,
5 Set OW switch on the OW/RX LEV MONITOR to ON (OW
indicator on the OW/RX LEV MONITOR is turned on),
6 Check that orderwire telephone between IDU and ODU can be
connected by using headsets,

7 Set OW switch on the OW/RX LEV MONITOR to OFF (OW

indicator on the OW/RX LEV MONITOR is turned off),

Notes: 1. The battery becomes weak if the OW switch is kept ON.

8 Disconnect headset(s) from EOW jack on the front panel of the

IDU, and/or from EOW jack on the OW/RX LEV MONITOR,

9 Disconnect the OW/RX LEV MONITOR from the RX LEV

MON jack on the ODU.

3.5.3 BER Measurement

BER measurement can not be performed on channels which are occupied

with LAN signal, therefore change the setting from LAN to 2 MB signal
transmission using LCT and interchange the LAN CARD with the 2M
INTFC-( ) module, before the measurement. (Refer to para 3.4 Equipment
Setting and Monitoring of the Modulator-Demodulator description)

Procedures for BER measurement between two stations are described for
both (1+0) and (1+1) systems as follows.:

(a) Test Equipment and Accessories Required

Agilent 34401A Digital Multimeter (or equivalent) with test leads
or X0818A OW/RX LEV MONITOR
Screwdriver
HP E7580A BER test set (or equivalent)

Personal Computer

INITIAL LINEUP ROI-S04934

(b) Procedure

Step Procedure

1 Set up as in Fig. 3-7,

2 At station A, the output signal from BER test set (SENDING

UNIT) is set as follows:
Bit rate: 2.048 Mbps
Code format: HDB3 code
Level: 2.37 Vo-p or 3.0 Vo-p
Impedance: 75 ohms, unbalanced or 120 ohms,
balanced

Note: The 2MB IN/OUT interface impedance for each channel is

selectable with Dip switches.

Note: Do not turn on the power of the IDU leaving cable connection
between the PC and LCT jack of the IDU.

Note: Before the start of maintenance, set the equipment to

maintenance mode using the LCT.

After all operation for maintenance have been completed,

perform MAINT OFF setting.
3 At station B, the input signal mode to BER test set
(RECEIVING UNIT) is set as follows:
Bit rate: 2.048 Mbps
Code format: HDB3 code
Impedance: 75 ohms, unbalanced or 120 ohms,
balanced

4 Measure the BER for each channel for a few minutes,

5 Check that the measured BER is within values of system

calculation,

6 Restore all connections used test to normal.
