Dear Minister of Environmental Protection,

My name is XXXXXXX, and I am a student from XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX in XXXXXX,

XXXXXX. In my World Literature and Composition Honors class, I am doing a project on
issues of social justice; my group chose to look at Chinas pollution and labor rights. As a citizen
who is concerned about Chinas social and environmental issues, I value the leadership you show
in order to improve the current situations not only for China, but for the world as a whole. My
purpose in writing to you is to find out if there are ways in which I can be involved in your work.

I understand the environmental issues that are in China, such as air pollution, dumping toxic
chemicals into waterways, and heavy metal that is found in crops. All of these have a clear and
direct impact on China: lung cancer rates are drastically increasing, cities shut down for days
when pollution is at its worst, and people do not have the opportunity to enjoy nature. In addition
to affecting its own country, Chinas pollution also has a worldwide impact because China
exports its goods and because we all share the same atmosphere. It is evident that the Chinese
government has taken action to solve smog issues in large cities, but these actions seem to fall
short of what is needed to address the wide range of effects that pollution has on China.

I know that China put new environmental protection provisions in place in 2015 and that these
have helped you make progress in slowing the pollution in China. Under President Obama,
China collaborated with Americas Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reach agreements
on acceptable pollution levels and solutions to environmental problems. My concern is that
President Trump has not made protecting the environment a priority in America, which will give
other countries a reason to stop making this a priority in their countries as well. I am writing to
request that you continue to make pollution and the protection of the environment a priority in
China, enforcing the provisions you created in 2015 and creating new legislation as necessary.

Please let me know if there is anything my group and I can do to further support your efforts and
your cause.

Thank you for your consideration.

Regards,

Dear Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security,

My name is XXXXXXX, and I am a student from XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX in XXXXXX,

XXXXXX. In my World Literature and Composition Honors class, I am doing a project on
issues of social justice; my group chose to look at Chinas pollution and labor rights. As a citizen
who is concerned about Chinas labor policies and human rights, I value the leadership you show
in order to improve the current situations not only for China, but for the world as a whole. My
purpose in writing to you is to find out if there are ways in which I can be involved in your work.

Labor practices in China have a history of being unjust. Current information indicates that the
labor force is overworked by as much as 100 hours every month, fire exits are not accessible to
the workers, flammable substances are littered all across the factory floors, and more hazardous
conditions are daily witnessed. I understand that it is a challenge to change labor practices,
especially because companies and factories have been able to operate without much interference
from the government, but I do know that you have made some attempts to help workers live
better lives. You have provided people with more employment opportunities and have provided
assistance to industries that are labor-intensive to make their working conditions safer.

I hope to see your efforts continue and expand to make labor practices more just for the
workforce. This could include reducing the hours that laborers have to work, allowing skilled
and unskilled people to work, and last but not least, making sure the government is working
towards strictly enforcing these labor policies so that companies and factories do not take undue
advantage of these workers.

Please let me know if there is anything my group and I can do to further support your efforts and
your cause.

Thank you for your consideration.
