DUE:

You will be working in groups to complete a decade of the history we have


studied in this class. This activity will be completed over one week.

Requirements:

1. Your timeline must contain a title (e.g. Events of the 1900s)

2. Your group must choose one of the following topics:

 Westward Expansion
 Immigration and Growth of Cities
 Industrialization and its Effects
 The Spanish American War
 World War I
 The Roaring 20s: Culture, Entertainment and Technology
 Great Migration and Harlem Renaissance
 The Great Depression
 World War II
 The Cold War
 1950s America: Baby Boom, Entertainment and
Communism
 The Civil Rights Movement
 The 1980s: Politics, Social Issues and Entertainment
 1990s: Collapse of Communism, Information Age, Gulf
War

3. Your group must complete a graphic organizer of themes/important


events of the time period you chose. You will show this to the teacher,
then research information on the themes. Group members will each
choose what topics they will research. Use your notebooks, textbook,
SOL cards, to help you!

4. As you research your event, your paragraph will have the following:

• A heading
• A date
• A short summary of two paragraphs about the event. This
summary answers the questions who, what, where, when, how,
and why it is important in six to eight sentences.
• An image that is drawn or downloaded from the Internet. It
must be colored.

You will have four class periods to work on this project. All other work must
be done on your own time!

Class Four, Tuesday, 06/15/10: Writers Workshop


Revise and Edit group members’ paragraphs
Create a blueprint of what your timeline will look like
HOMEWORK: Write your final draft in pen or typed. DUE: Next class.

Class Five: Wednesday, 06/16/10: Create Timeline
