Document : Cable Selection for HV load

Introduction :

10 MVA power is to be transmitted over 1000 Mtr. At 11 kV for given system

The path is within factory and mode of cable laying is over the steel racks (air).

The options available are using 3 core cable or 1 core cable.

Assumptions :

Fault level at incomer is 350 MVA.

Aluminium conductor, XLPE insulated cables are to be used.

Calculations :

1. 2 Nos. 3 core x 240 sq. mm. cable required as per attached annexure. In addition to this
1 No. 3 core x 240 sq. mm. cable as a spare, which can provide 55% spare power transfer capacity.
In case of first cable fault no power cut is required. Second cable fault, 55% capacity will be
available.

2. 2 Nos. 1 core x 240 sq. mm./ Phase (total 6 cables) cable required as per attached annexure.
2 No. 1 core x 240sq. mm. cable as a spare, which can provide redundancy upto any two cable
faults.

Cable Data :
Installation Ampacity Resi React. Dia. Weight Cost
Ohm/kM Ohm/kM mm kG/kM Rs./Mtr.
1c - 240 Air 445 0.161 0.101 39 1850 415
3c - 240 Air 317 0.161 0.085 71 6300 1093

Conclusion :

3 Nos. 3 core x 240 sq mm. cables are recommended.

due to horizontal laying it is possible,

voltage Unbalance No but not considerable for this length Trefoil laying can avoid this problem
Screening of cable Required Required
