Crossdocking Setup for Hands On Exercise

Oracle Warehouse Management now enables users to crossdock material received to

fulfill a scheduled demand in two fashions: Planned and Opportunistic.

Incoming supply can be pegged to outgoing demand using crossdock rules. In case of
Planned crossdocking the pre-allocation is done during Pick Release. In
opportunistic crossdocking dynamic allocation is done during material putaway.

Operation plans can be used to consolidate the material appropriately in the staging area
for shipping purposes.

Refer to the Crossdocking TOI material for a detailed functional and technical overview.

This document focuses on the setup requirements of Oracle Warehouse Management

module for using Crossdocking features. The exercise will cover setting up Crossdock
parameters, Crossdock Rules, Operation Plans. Subsequent exercises will cover Planned
Crossdock and Opportunistic Crossdock processes.

The setup steps -- indicated as (ADHOC) -- are necessary data setup for executing the
hands-on exercises. They are not new features.

Step 1: Define a Planned Crossdock Rule

Navigation: Manufacturing and Distribution Manager > Warehouse Manager > Setup >
Warehouse Configuration > Rules > Warehouse Execution > Crossdock Criteria

Step 3: Ensure Organization is enabled for Opportunistic Crossdocking

Navigation: Manufacturing and Distribution Manager > Warehouse Manager > Setup >
Warehouse Configuration > Warehouses > Warehouse Parameters

Check Enabled and select the Default Crossdock Criteria in Opportunistic

Crossdocking group box.

Step 4: Define Two new items (ADHOC)

There is no change in the process to create new items. This step is to ensure users are
working with their own items for the purposes of hands-on exercises to avoid any
confusion.

Navigation: Manufacturing and Distribution Manager > Warehouse Manager > Setup >
Material Setup > Items > Master Items

Enter an Item name and Description

Copy from purchased item template
Save
Assign it to the WMS Organization you are working with.
Crossdock Item Name _________________________ (MPUXDK100)
Warehouse Organization _________ (W1)

7
R12 Field Readiness Training WMS - Crossdocking

Repeat the above steps to create another item and assign it to Warehouse
Organization (W1)
Inventory Item Name __________________ (MPU-100)

Step 5: Setting Up Crossdock rule assignment

Navigation: Manufacturing and Distribution Manager > Warehouse Manager > Setup >
Warehouse Configuration > Rules > Warehouse Execution > Rules Workbench

Select Planned Crossdock as the rule type

Create a new assignment with a sequence number
o Lower the sequence higher the precedence
o Ensure there are no active open-ended rule assignment with a lower
sequence than yours
Select your planned crossdock rule (MPUPLAN1)
Select the organization (W1)
Select the crossdock planned item (MPUXDK100)
Select Always in the Date Type column
Check Enabled

Repeat the above steps for rule type (opportunistic crossdock), opportunistic
crossdock rule (MPUOPP), Organization (W1), and Inventory planned item
(MPUXDK100)

Step 6: Create inventory levels (ADHOC)

Mobile Navigation: Whse Mgmt > Warehousing > Inventory > Receipts > Miscellaneous
Receipt

The procedure to perform a miscellaneous receipt is same as before.

Receive a quantity of 1000 to a storage locator for crossdock planned item

(MPUXDK100)
Receive a quantity of 1000 to a storage locator for inventory planned item (MPU-
100)
Ensure the storage locators are easily accessible for picking ( One way to ensure
this is to have a default picking rule with no restrictions. And include it on all the
strategies at the end. )

Record the details

Item Qty LPN Subinventory Locator

Step 7: Order Management and Shipping Parameter setup (ADHOC)

Navigation: Order Managment > Setup > System Parameters > Values

Set a value of 0 for Reservation Time Fence parameter.

Hint: This setting will ensure that no high level reservations are created when the
sales orders are booked. This is necessary because system will not try to
crossdock for the demand lines with any reservations.

Navigation: Order Management > Shipping > Setup > Global Parameters

Select Transportation tab

For Delivery Date Calculation Method field select Scheduled Date, Requested
Date value
Hint: This will ensure that the Deliverys initial pickup date is correctly set as per the
scheduled ship date.

The above is a picture depicting the Time Line. Each slice can be Days, Hours, or
Minutes. For the purposes of illustration in the context of the sample data used for the
hands-on exercise the above picture also indicates 5:00pm on a working day and each
slice here should be interpreted as an hour. There are Six Purchase Orders with arrival
time and Five Sales Orders with shipment time indications along the time line. The
minimum required for the basic preliminary hands-on exercises are two POs (P1 & P2)
and two SOs (S4 & S5).

The Planned depiction of Crossdock Window (CW), Buffer Time (BT), and Order
Processing Time (OPT) will be used in Planned Crossdocking process for backward
scheduling. Similarly Opportunistic depiction will be used for Opportunistic
Crossdocking process for forward scheduling.

The timeline, supply arrival date and times, and demand departure date and times are
particularly important to understand the effects of the various parameter settings on the
crossdock criteria.

There is no change in the procedure to create a Purchase Order or a Sales Order. The
following is a generic guideline with specifics for the hands-on exercises.

Creation of a PO:
Create a Standard PO
Set Ship-To and Bill-To to your Organization (W1)
Create a line for the crossdock planned item (MPUXDK100) for a qty of 5
Enter a promise date with time details E.g.: For Purchase Order P1 the promise
date would be 15-OCT-2006 12:30:00 PM, for P2 it would be 15-OCT-2006
1:00:00 PM.
Change the Receipt Routing to Standard Receipt

For the purposes of this document the details of the POs are as below for easier reference.

quantity of 5
Enter the desired date in the Scheduled Ship Date field.
Save the Order
Book the sales order

The following steps are not required if the crossdock time fences (CW, OPT, BT,
PDS) are specified as a number of days. They are required if the time fences are
specified in hours and minutes for the purposes of our exercise.

Component issues
On Cross dock operation, select the appropriate outbound operation plan in
Crossdock Method field that should be used while crossdocking the material

Step 10: Create a mobile user for yourself (ADHOC)
