Marketing: I am legend was premiered specifically in New York, this would


have attracted many new Yorkers to watch the film, as they could recognise
the changes of their city in a post-apocalyptic world. The film offers escapism
to this audience as their city (home) is turned upside down. Furthermore, as I
am Legend is a blockbuster film they included a main single cast for the
movie, Will Smith. Will Smith is a famous Hollywood star, and has featured in
many blockbuster movies; this would attract a large mainstream audience,
that are into the new blockbuster movies. He even took part in many talk
shows such as black tree TV that was popular when this movie was being
premiered. In addition this movies main audience is male, however, females,
specifically in demographic of C1 would watch the movie. Will Smith also has
a large female fan base, and is considered attractive by a large number of
audiences. The trailer includes scenes that reveal Will Smiths body while hes
working out, this was used to attract a key audience, being, both young and
middle aged female adults.

The genre of I am Legend is Apocalyptic and also has a sub genre of horror.
This would attract a general male audience, as males are widely associated
with being into violence mainly in demographic E as they are made up of
mainstreamers and strugglers who seek the social gratification of escapism
from everyday life and also may want social interaction with friends and family.

However, the film also attracts males from demographic B who are in creative
industries such as product designers or media teachers (middle aged men).
They might also respect the sci-fi aspect of the film and the creative plot,
rather than being into typically mindless gore and action with no sophisticated
plot. Although this would attract demographic D, which is made up of mainly
males who are stereotypically into action which addresses their masculinity.
