Specific Guidelines & Success Criteria

Description & Rules:
-What is your object/game or physical activity? (Video, explanation + demo)
-How do we use the creation?
-Can any variations be made to the activity?
-Extended thinking: what if a 3D printer or laser cutter was not available? what is something that
already exists or could be altered to attain similar object to your creation?
Reasoning:
-Does it appeal to a certain audience? Is it specific to a certain settings or events?
-What age group will play it? Does everyone need the same amount of (Daily Physical Activity)
DPA? How could this creation help contribute to increasing their DPA?
Process and Critical Reflection:
Why did you choose this activity?
How could you promote your activity so people would actually try/play your game?
Why you like or are proud of what you created? What you could have done to improve your project?
What you liked or did not like about this project?
ASSIGNMENT: Creating Activity - Grade 10 (PPLO2)

Example: The Flip Game

Description & Rules:

During the past year a new activity of bottle flipping has become a trend amongst young
individuals. The idea behind bottle flipping is to throw the partially filled water bottle into the air and
have it land right side up. The idea behind my game The Flip Game is that 2 or more individuals
will line up at a set distance away from a table or ledge and attempt to flip the object through the air
and land right side up. Players must run grab the object and return to the designated throwing line
before attempting another throw/flip. The first player or team (depending on number of players) that
successfully flips and lands their objects wins. This game can be altered to resemble a H.O.R.S.E.
where teams choose unique flipping styles and landing areas that the second team must replicate or
they receive a letter (i.e. H). The first team to collect all 5 letters of HORSE loses.

Reasoning:
By taking a trendy activity and creating it into a game that includes some friendly competition and
physical activity, it increase the appeal for young individuals. This type/style of game is closely
related to bocce ball, which is excellent social game that allows for physical activity during a family
gathering, or weekend barbeque. The .. Guidelines for physical activity for adults is 150
minutes/week and for young adolescents is 60min/day (source). Receiving the required amount or
more of this physical activity can be difficult for some individuals. Providing fun-social games that
people of all ages can play will help increase the likelihood of reaching the canadian guidelines.

Process and Critical Reflection:

I personally enjoy target sports, I find them an excellent leisurely pastime to help increase my
amount of moderate daily physical activity. I also think bottle flipping is currently a trendy activity so
that played a factor in my decision making process. The fact that it is a current trend could help with
promotion of my activity. Posting a video online via social media could be a method of promoting it to
others. Also setting up a station in the hallways of our school during lunch for students to play would
help with promotion. Overall I am most proud of how I took a simple idea from my mind created a
design and actually physically printed and created the tactile object. I think that if I had better
practise with 3D printing my object may have turned out better. Also target sports are sometimes
criticized for not being very vigorously active. If I choose a sport or game that involved more physical
activity that would benefit individuals trying to reach their recommended guidelines. Finally I liked this
project again because we physically got to make and keep something. I created a game that I can
play with my friends or family during social events and that to me is pretty exciting.
