1.1 Overview
ZXUN USPP system adopts the USPP structure. Each USPP system
comprises one or more FE Subsystems, one UDS Subsystem, one
or more Provision Subsystems, one Network Management Subsys-
tem and one Maintenance Tools Subsystem.

1.2 System Working Principles

Figure 1 illustrates the system architecture of ZXUN USPP.

Chapter 1 System Architecture

ZXUN USPP system consists of FE Subsystem, UDS Subsystem,

Provision Subsystem, OMM Subsystem and O&M Subsystem,
which are respectively responsible for signaling and service
processing, data management, service handling, OMM functions
and data maintenance.

1.3 FE Subsystem
Hardware The front-end subsystem uses the 19 inch standard rack with a
Description net internal height of 42 U.
At full configuration, a single cabinet contains:
For a three-shelf cabinet
Three 9U service subracks, one 2U power distribution subrack,
three 1U fan subracks, two 3U ventilation subracks, one 3U
blank plane, and one 1U blank subrack, 42U high in all.
For a four-shelf cabinet
Four 9U service subracks, one 2U power subracks, three 1U
fan subracks, and one 1U blank subrack, 42U high in all.
The service subrack used by the FE subsystem is the BCTC sub-
rack.
A board consists of panel components, the functional PCB board
and daughter cards. The PCB board is installed with a connector
plug to insert into the socket on the backplane. The board name
is marked on the panel. At full capacity, the system contains 17
boards.
Table 1 lists ZXUN USPP boards and their functions.

TABLE 1 BOARD FUNCTIONS

Board Function

SPB The SPB provides the E1 interface. It processes

signaling on MTP2 and layers below, and forwards
MTP3 signaling packets to the Signaling MP board.

HSL board The ATM cells enter the HSL board through the E1/T1
interface, and then assigned to the TDM interface
on the HSL board after timeslot exchange. The HSL
board transfers TDM signals into ATM cells, and then
performs the reassembling, reorganization and SSCS
processing of AAL5, after which it sends service related
data to relevant service MP boards.

SIPI Board The SIPI board provides FE interfaces and forwards IP

packets. It forwards SCTP packets received from the
IP network to the Signaling MP board for processing.
The SIPI board works in pairs and is configured to
work in the load sharing mode.

Board Function

SMP Board The SMP board processes services and signaling

packets. After the SMP board receives signaling
packets from the SIPI board, it processes the packets
on MTP3 and layers above according to the signaling
protocol stacks. When the SMP board needs to send
signaling packets, it forwards signaling packets down
layer by layer according to signaling packet protocols,
until the packets are forwarded to other NEs from
the SIPI board. To increase the dependability of the
signaling system, the SMP boards work in pairs and
are configured to work in the active/standby mode.
When the active SMP board is faulty, the standby SMP
board takes over to ensure the normal operation of
the system.

OMP Board The MOP board has two modules: the OMP module
and the RPU module.
The OMP module completes system control
management related functions. It saves the
configuration information and version files of devices,
and sends alarm messages, statistics messages, etc.
to the background.
The RPU module maintains the routing tables of the
entire NE. Routing packets received by SIPI interface
boards are forwarded to the RPU module. The RPU
module refreshes the routing tables in real time.
Based on routing tables, it creates forwarding tables,
which are forwarded to SIPI boards for the purpose
of synchronization.
The OMP boards work in pairs and are configured to
work in the active/standby mode. When the active
OMP board is faulty, the standby OMP board takes over.

TIPI Board The TIPI board is responsible for intra-office and

inter-office communications. In a cross-office network,
inter-office communications is needed as well as
intra-office communications between the front-end
and the background modules. The TIPI boards work
in pairs and are configured to work in the load sharing
mode.

UIMC Board The UIMC board ensures the message transmission

between boards in the service subrack. It connects
SIPI boards, SMP boards, OMP boards and TIPI boards.
The THUB boards work in pairs and are configured to
work in the active/standby mode.

THUB Board The THUB board is used for the expansion of the
distributive processing platform: each resource cabinet
deploys 2 FE ports (control stream) to connect to the
Converged Ethernet, and the THUB board is connected
to the control shelf and the UIMC board through the
Gigabit electrical port. The THUB boards work in pairs
and are configured to work in the active/standby mode.

CLKG Board The CLKG board provides Level-2 enhanced clock. It

obtains locked clock signals from the BITS/SPB board,
and provides 8kHz/s reference clock signals to the
SPB board, SIPI board and TIPI board to ensure the
synchronization between equipment clock and the
external network. The CLKG boards work in pairs and
are configured to work in the active/standby mode.
