I have worked with Amy since 2013 and affirm she is an outstanding teacher and leader who strives to promote excellence in the staff and students she supports. Asa special education teacher, Amy serves as an advocate for her students and collaborates with general education teachers to ensure her students reach their full potential. In her current role as special educator at the elementary level, Amy has proven that she can balance the needs of students with diverse needs to include specialized academic, behavioral and communication needs, and delivers engaging and appropriate instruction. Amy provides involved, hands-on support to her colleagues as well. She observes students in the learning environment and gives teachers specific feedback. Amy works collaboratively with her team within her building as well as the support staff in the Department of Exceptional Education, Ms. Lawson attends trainings regarding specialized instruction and specific disabilities in order to enhance her work. Her ability to craft IEP’s is exceptional and her knowledge of special education procedure is sound. I witness Ms. Lawson’s compassion, high expectations, and aspirations for all she works with, colleagues and students alike, On multiple occasions, school administrators, parents and advocates have stated how they appreciate all she does for their students and how they appreciate having her support Amy’s innate leadership ability shines through every day and shows in her planning and execution of new initiatives in school.
