Learning Experience: Fun with Balls

Programming Purpose: Upon observing the classroom, I noticed that the room was equipped with a variety of balls.
The children seemed to enjoy playing with them and throwing them around. I decided to bring in balls of my own
different from the ones in the classroom to see how the children reacted to new toys.

Objective: Children will enhance their exploratory and gross motor skills as they play with the new balls.

Materials: Modifications:

-Two Beach Balls Stabilize:

-Three Balls with Emotional Expressions (Happy, N/A

Angry, In Love)
Simplify:

N/A

Enhance:

Slightly deflate some of the balls so children see that
some bounce and some do not.

Tweak:

Use balls of assorted sizes and transparencies (some

clear, some solid, etc.)

Opening (Introduction)

-Ms. Emma will blow up the beach balls allowing the children to watch as they inflate.

-Ms. Emma will roll all the balls around the classroom.

Body (Content)

- Ms. Emma will watch in silence, giving the children the opportunity to freely explore the balls. (Silence) They
may sit on, push, throw, or lay on the balls. As this is an open-ended activity, their reaction and behaviour
towards the bubble wrap is unpredictable.
- For children who are tentative of the balls, Ms. Emma will roll the ball to them and use an exaggerated voice
and gesture to show them that the ball is safe and fun (Modeling).

Closing (Ending)

- When the children lose interest, or it is time to transition to lunch, the balls will be place on the shelf.

Transition

-When program is over, children will be placed in their chairs for lunch.
