Abstrak:

Abstract

Evaporation is one of coating methods to produce a thin layer conducted in a vacuum


chamber. The thin layer formed by evaporation of a metal vapors is originated from evaporation
sources. The thin layer produced by this method has sufficiently good quality with low cost
production. This research is carried out in a set of tools namely Evaporation Edward System E610
with a vacuum level reaching 10-5 mbar. Source of evaporation was an aluminium which was varied
using different masses with 0,0216 grams; 0,0268 grams; 0,0319 grams; 0,0372 grams and 0,0424
grams. The substrate material was a carbon steel ST40 that has been previously electroplated using a
chrome layer. After evaporated, the samples were heated by 200 oC. The objective of this research
was to determine the effect of the mass variations of Al which was followed by heat treatment process
on the hardness and wear resistance.
The XRD testing results showed that the layer with a mass of 0,0216 grams had an
amorphous structure since its constituent atoms dont have a specific arrangement pattern. While with
the surface with a mass of 0,0424 grams showed a crystalline structure as given by its diffraction
peaks. The result of hardness test showed that the sample deposited by a mass of aluminium with
0,0216 grams; 0,0268 grams; 0,0319 grams; 0,0372 grams and 0,0424 grams produced a hardness
value of 157,75 HVN; 163,75 HVN; 184,66 HVN; 198,94 HVN and 215,86 HVN, respectively. While,
the wear resistance of these similar mass variations produced a value the wear rate of 1,678 x 10 -4
mm2/kg; 1,547 x 10-4 mm2/kg; 1,505 x 10-4 mm2/kg; 1,343 x 10-4 mm2/kg and 1,267 x 10-4 mm2/kg,
respectively. These results indicate that there was a formation of new intermetallic compounds of Al-
Cr that improved the properties of hardness and wear resistance. An increase of the mass of
aluminium deposited on the Fe-Ni produced more Al-Cr intermetallic phases.

evaporation was obtained by condensation of metal vapour of evaporation sources. Evaporation is
conducted on a pest or vacuum chamber with a vacuum level of 10 -5 mbar. This research conducted in
a set of tools namely Evaporator Edward Coating System E610 with a maximum vacuum level of 10 -5
mbar. The substrate material was a carbon steel ST 40 that has been previously electroplated by a
nickel layer. The mass of aluminium was varied using 0, 0216 grams, 0, 0268 grams, 0, 0319 grams,
0, 0372 grams, and 0, 0424 grams. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of the mass of
aluminum produced by evaporation which was followed by heat treatment process using 200 oC on
the hardness and wear resistance of the Fe-Ni layer.
The diffraction peaks obtained by XRD test showed that the layers with Al of 0.0216 gram
had an amorphous structure while the sample with a mass of 0.0424 grams Al had a crystalline
structure. The results of hardness test showed that the hardness of the sample deposited by the mass
of aluminium with 0,0216 grams, 0,0268 grams, 0,0319 grams, 0, 0372 grams, and 0 0424 grams
produced a hardness value of 185,9 VHN, 195,2 VHN, 200,2 VHN, 219 VHN and 251, 5 VHN,
respectively. Using these mass variations produced the wear rate of 4, 833 x 10 -5 mm2/kg, 3, 116 x 1-5
mm2/kg, 2, 576 x 10-5 mm2/kg, 2, 109 x 10-5 mm2/kg and 1, 873 x 10-5 mm2/kg, respectively. This
indicates that there was a formation of new intermetallic compounds of Al-Ni that improved the
properties of hardness and wear resistance. An increase of the mass of aluminium deposited on the
Fe-Ni produced more Al-Ni intermetallic phases.

Penguapan adalah salah satu metode pelapisan dilakukan dalam ruang vakum
digunakan untuk menghasilkan lapisan tipis yang memiliki kualitas yang baik dengan biaya
produksi rendah dan proses cepat. Lapisan tipis yang dibentuk oleh penguapan diperoleh
dengan kondensasi uap logam sumber penguapan. Penguapan dilakukan pada ruang hama
atau vakum dengan tingkat kekosongan 10-5 mbar. Penelitian ini dilakukan di satu set alat
yaitu Evaporator Edward Coating Sistem E610 dengan tingkat vakum maksimum 10-5 mbar.
Bahan substrat adalah baja karbon ST 40 yang sebelumnya telah dilapisi oleh lapisan nikel.
Massa aluminium bervariasi menggunakan 0, 0216 gram, 0, 0268 gram, 0, 0319 gram, 0,
0372 gram, dan 0, 0424 gram. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh
massa aluminium yang dihasilkan oleh penguapan yang diikuti oleh proses perlakuan panas
menggunakan 200 oC pada kekerasan dan ketahanan aus dari lapisan Fe-Ni.

Puncak difraksi yang diperoleh dengan uji XRD menunjukkan bahwa lapisan dengan
Al dari 0,0216 gram memiliki struktur amorf sedangkan sampel dengan massa 0,0424 gram
Al memiliki struktur kristal. Hasil uji kekerasan menunjukkan bahwa kekerasan sampel
disimpan oleh massa aluminium dengan 0,0216 gram, 0,0268 gram, 0,0319 gram, 0, 0372
gram, dan 0 0424 gram menghasilkan nilai kekerasan 185, 9 VHN, 195,2 VHN, 200,2 VHN,
219 VHN dan 251, 5 VHN, masing-masing. Dengan menggunakan variasi massa diproduksi
tingkat keausan 4, 833 x 10-5 mm2 / kg, 3, 116 x 1-5 mm2 / kg, 2, 576 x 10-5 mm2 / kg, 2,
109 x 10-5 mm2 / kg dan 1, 873 x 10-5 mm2 / kg, masing-masing. Hal ini menunjukkan
bahwa ada pembentukan senyawa intermetalik baru Al-Ni yang meningkatkan sifat
kekerasan dan ketahanan aus. Peningkatan massa aluminium diendapkan pada Fe-Ni
menghasilkan lebih Al-Ni fase intermetalik.
