United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, Maryland) 4 Years

Graduation is the 1st Wednesday in June, the next year begins 3 weeks later on
Monday (5th Monday in June/1st Monday in July).

Basic Officers Course (The Basic School, Camp Barrett, Quantico, Virginia)
28 Weeks
Required of all Marine officers. Classes form on the Monday after New Years and
every 6 weeks thereafter, with a week break between the 2 nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th, 6th
and 7th classes and after the 8th. Course ends on a Friday. Classes are designated
BOC YY-#.

Basic Reconnaissance Course (Amphibious Reconnaissance School, Little


Creek, Virginia/Coronado, California) 12 Weeks
Required of all Recon Marines, prior to assignment to Recon unit. Each year four
courses are offered, Starting on the first Monday after New Years with a week break
in between. Training completes on the Friday of the 12 th week. Classes are
designated BRC YY-#. Those awaiting the course to start are assigned to MART
(Marines Awaiting Reconnaissance Training) Platoon.

Combat Swimmers Course (Amphibious Reconnaissance School, Little


Creek, Virginia/Coronado, California) 6 Weeks
Required of all Recon Marines, but attended after assignment to Recon unit. Each
year eight courses are offered, Starting on the first Monday after New Years with a
week break in between the 2nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th, 6th and 7th classes and after the
8th. Training completes on the Friday of the eighth week. Classes are designated by
CSC YY-#. Enlisted Graduates gain the secondary MOS 8653 Reconnaissance Man,
SCUBA Qualified. Officer graduates gain MOS 9952

Basic Airborne Course (Ft. Benning, Georgia) 3 Weeks


Required of all Recon Marines, but attended after assignment to Recon unit. Classes
start the Monday after New Years and every week throughout the year. Classes are
designated BAC YY-##. Enlisted graduates gain the secondary MOS 8652
Reconnaissance Man, Parachute Qualified.

Enlisted graduates of both the diver course and the airborne course gain the
secondary MOS 8654 Reconnaissance Man, Parachute and SCUBA Qualified.

Hospital Corps School (Great Lakes, Illinois/San Diego, California) 14


Weeks
Classes start the Monday after New Years and every week throughout the year.
Classes are designated YY-##. Enlisted graduates gain the secondary NEC HM-0000
General Duty Corpsman.

Field Medical Service School (Camp Lejeune, North Carolina/Camp


Pendleton, California) 8 Weeks
Six classes per year commence on the first Monday after New Years and run
consecutively, with a two week break between 3 rd and 4th classes and after the 6th
class. Training completes on the Friday of the eighth week. Classes are designated
by FMSS YY-#. Graduates gain NEC HM-8404 FMF Corpsman

Diving Medical Technician Course (Naval diving and Salvage Training


Center, Panama City, Florida) 24 Weeks
Four classes per year commence on the first Monday after New Years and every
between. Training completes on the Friday of the eighth week. Courses are
designated DMTC YY-#.

Special Forces Medical Course (Ft. Bragg, North Carolina) 26 Weeks


Each year eight courses are offered, Starting on the first Monday after New Years
with a week break in between the 2nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th, 6th and 7th classes and after
the 8th. Training completes on the Friday of the 26th week. Courses are designated
DMTC YY-#.

After attending BRC, MCD, BAC, ARC and SOCMC 8404s become 8427 FMF
Reconnaissance Corpsman

Senior corpsman with IDC certification and NEC 8427 are redesignated NEC-8403
FMF Reconnaissance Independent Duty Corpsman
