I am going to set up one of the tables for our marshmallow
patterning activity. I will call over some of the JKs since they
have less experience with patterning and will call up 3 children at
a time. The experience will take place indoors and be set up as
the math centre for the day.
Objectives:
1. The children will further develop their skill to Identify Patterns
(4.18) by creating their pattern, identifying what the pattern is,
as well as extending the pattern.
2. The children will further develop their fine motor skills (5.3) by
increasing coordination while stamping with the marshmallows.
3. The children will continue to enhance their self-concept (2.1)
by identifying what they can do.
Materials:
- 1 table
- 3 chairs
- 3 paint trays
- 6 paint colours
- 18 marshmallows
Implementation:
1. I will call over 3 children at a time
2. I will ask the children to put on their smocks
3. I will then demonstrate how the activity is done and create my
own pattern by stamping the marshmallows
Teaching strategies:
1. Modelling
I will model how to play the game so the children can see what I
mean first hand.
