describe what happens in each of these scenarios

PMBok
Plans have very little significance unless it is executed

More than that, plans have very little significance if during

execution, tasks (you have planned for) are not being
monitored and controlled to reflect the current status

Project closing
The purpose of the Closing Process Group according to
the PMBOK Guide is to

conclude all activities across all Project Management Process

Groups to formally complete the project, phase, or contractual
obligations.

The term formally implies that there is a proper

documentation of the project closure.
Tabady 2017 14

Three Typical scenarios for project close

Phase complete

The deliverables for a phase must be validated internally within the

organization and then, if the final product is destined for a customer, must be
verified (externally) by that customer. If this internal validation and external
verification by the customer are both successful, THEN the project may
continue to the next phase.
Tabady 2017 15

Three Typical scenarios for project

close(cont..)

Project complete

Delivering the final product to the customer. The customer must then
either formally accept or reject the product. If the customer formally
accepts the product, and pays the agreed upon compensation for that
product, then the contractual obligations of your organization and the
customer are both fulfilled, and the project may proceed to conclusion.
Tabady 2017 16

Three Typical scenarios for project

close(cont..)
Project terminated

If your organization is unwilling or unable to meet the customers

expectations as far as the product is concerned, then the project
may be terminated, and there will be legal repercussions for your
inability to fulfill the contractual obligation to the customer.
Tabady 2017 17

Summary
Project execution is the when the actual work is
performed.

Project Monitoring and control ensures that key project

deliverables are compared against baselines (schedule,
cost and scope) and when deviations are found,
necessary corrective actions are taken.

Project closing can mean there is a closure in the project

phase, the completion of the project or that it is
terminated. The consumer has to formally agree to the
conditions and deliverables met by a project team.
