UNDERGRADUATE REGISTRATION PROCESS
Students with a financial or Dean of Students hold will not be able to register.
Students need to see their faculty advisor prior to registration to discuss course selection and to receive their PIN.Your faculty advisor is listed
on your degree evaluation.
Students are NOT excused from class to register. This includes cutting class or leaving class early.
Online registration will proceed by student class attribute.
For full time students, class attributes are determined by their anticipated year of graduation:
For part time matriculated students, class attributes are determined as follows, by the number of credits earned and in progress:
College of Arts & Sciences, School of Engineering Egan School
Dolan School of Business, (except Computer of Nursing
SOE Computer Science majors Science majors)
Senior (ASR) 90+ 92+ 99+
Junior (AJR) 60-89 60-91 64-98
Sophomore (ASO) 25-59 27-59 28-63
Freshman (AFR) 0-24 0-26 0-27
For example, a part time DSB student with 54 earned credits who is currently enrolled in 9 credits would be considered a junior for
registration purposes, with a total of 63 credits.
Students will register online in alphabetical groupings beginning at 10:50am on their designated day. Spring in-season varsity athletes will
precede the alphabetical groupings, starting at 8:45am.
Students will register for major, minor, core, and elective courses on their class registration day and are limited to a maximum of 20 credits.
The online registration system will be active for each class until 11:59pm. Then the students online registration access will be turned off until
Monday, November 28, when add/drop begins.
There will be one day between each class registration for departments to review registrations and for students who missed their registration to
register in person in the Registrars Office.
Most courses will be open during the online registration period. Some departments (with courses that have specific populations) may
incrementally increase the maximum number of spaces in some of their courses by class.
The University reserves the right to cancel courses for which there are insufficient registration or change time codes or professors as deemed
necessary.
If you choose to drop a class and later change your mind, or if you are removed for non-payment, you will not be guaranteed a place in the
same class.
4
UNDERGRADUATE REGISTRATION PROCESS
Automatic Rollover Courses
Automatic Rollover Courses are full-year course sequences that continue from the Fall semester to the Spring semester, typically with the same
professor and the same time code. Everyone in the class is rolled. If you wish to change your rollover course, you may change it during your
registration period on a space available basis. Department Chairs can make changes in rollovers as necessary. Professors will announce specifics in
class concerning whether their class is a rollover for Spring and what the rollover will be.
Note: If you have a financial or Dean of Students hold at the time rollovers are processed, you will not be rolled into the next class in the
sequence.
Independent Study
Independent studies are available in most majors and programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. Students wishing to pursue an intensive
research or other academic experience must consult first with a sponsoring faculty member.
Internships
Internships provide the opportunity for practical experience in a career field related to a students major. Most departments and programs in the
College of Arts and Sciences offer credit for internships in appropriate agencies and business firms in Fairfield, nearby communities, as well as
New York City and New Haven. Majors who wish to take advantage of these opportunities should consult their department chair or program
internship coordinator about eligibility requirements and other details.
Online Courses
All full-time students classified as Juniors and Seniors are eligible to enroll in one online course for the Spring 2017 semester without needing
prior Deans Office approval.
Please be aware that online courses are condensed (typically only 7 weeks in duration) and therefore rigorous. Online courses often have
irregular start and end dates (sometimes beginning at the halfway point of the semester). As with semester-long lecture-based courses, class
enrollment is firmly capped, and availability for full-time Juniors and Seniors is limited.
Note: The one-course online maximum per semester for full-time students will be strictly enforced. Any full-time student who registers
for more than one online course for the fall semester will be automatically dropped from ALL online courses. Further, the
student will not be permitted to register for additional courses until November 28, after all undergraduates have registered.
5
UNDERGRADUATE REGISTRATION PROCESS
Waitlist Courses
The waitlist for courses will be turned on at the beginning of online registration, except for courses with maximums that are increased
incrementally.
When a space opens up in a class, the first student on the waitlist will be notified via their student Gmail account, with instructions on how
to register for the waitlisted class. They will have 24 hours from the time the email is sent to register for the class. If there is a
conflict in their schedule, they will have to resolve that issue before registering for the waitlisted class. If they fail to register for the class by the
deadline stated in the email, they will be removed from the waitlist for that class.
The use of the waitlists and the process of notifying students will run from Monday, November 28 through Friday, January 13. During this
period, the Registrars Office will not honor write-ins from faculty for closed courses. The electronic waitlist will be the only mechanism for
filling available openings in closed courses. After January 13, students may register for classes with open seats on a first come, first serve basis.
During the Add/Drop period of January 17-23, the Registrar will accept write-ins from faculty for closed courses.
All matriculated undergraduate students have a degree evaluation online, showing the requirements of their program, including core, majors, and
minors. To run a degree evaluation on my.fairfield.edu:
2) Click on the blue button with the graduation cap that says Degree Eval Degree Eval
Students should print a degree evaluation and bring it with them when they meet with their advisor, or be ready to display it
on their personal laptop or tablet device.
The student registration system is accessed through my.fairfield.edu. Every student has an account on this system.
If a student needs assistance with their NetID or password, they should contact the ITS Help Desk at 203-254-4069.
Please visit fairfield.edu/xe-registration for an overview and highlights of the new registration system.
Remember to add labs when necessary. If a student does not have a computer with Internet capabilities, they can use one in the computer
labs, the library, or the Dolan School of Business. If a student needs assistance with registration, they should contact the Registrars Office at 203-
254-4288. They SHOULD NOT call the Help Desk.
Remember, any student with a Financial or Dean of Students hold will not be allowed to register.

SERVICE LEARNING
SPRING 2017 COURSES
Service Learning is a kind of experiential education that connects classroom learning with community service. In collaboration with commu-
nity organizations, students learn about and apply tools of the academic discipline and specific course concepts in their service experiences.
This combination enhances academic learning and civic awareness while also providing a meaningful service to and with the community.
Course credit and grading are for the learning not for the service. The service activities for the course are similar to the readings, lectures, class
discussions and other assignmentsall are contexts for student learning.
Courses will appear with the following notation in the right-hand column of the schedule of classes: SerL or SerL Option
SerL: All students in the course are required to participate in service learning.
SerL Option: Students have a choice to participate in service learning as a final project and/or in lieu of another comparable project.
ISL: The course includes a required or optional international travel, immersion, and/or service experience.
Please visit fairfield.edu/servicelearning for full course descriptions and to learn about additional opportunities with the Center for Faith
and Public Life.
Questions? Contact Melissa Quan, Director of Service Learning, at x3455 or mquan@fairfield.edu or visit the office in Canisius 200.
