Abstract: We were to predict the landing spot if a marble that was

horizontally launched from a race track or an elevated platform. We first
recorded the times of how long the marble will take to get to the edge of the
racetrack. We then averaged the times.

I. INTRODUCTION:
2. 10/07/16

We performed this lab so that we would be able to determine the

landing spot of the marble after falling down the ramp.

II. THEORY:

We used two equations one that uses X and one that uses Y
a. xf=xi+vixt+1/2axt^2
b. yf=yi+viyt+1/2ayt^2

III. EXPERIMENTAL DETAILS:

We were assigned different tracks with different heights and different

angles. Then we placed a marble on the highest of the track and let it
roll while we timed it as it made its way to the edge of the table. We
performed this about six times and then averaged out the times.
USing this number we plugged it into the equation so that we could
find the initial velocity. We then did all of the math to find the distance
of where the marble will fall from the table. With that spot we marked
it with red tape.

IV. RESULTS:

Our results was not exactly what we were expecting. The marble did
not exactly hit dead center but it was very close. The reason for this is
probably our timing when we first started which messed up the
average. By having the initial velocity and the height of the table we

were able to make a guess where the marble could land before we
dropped it.

Run Time
1 0.25
2 0.14
3 0.16
4 0.17
5 0.16
6 0.18

V. DISCUSSION:

We rolled the marble down the ramp 6 times and recorded the time
the ball took to cross the last 30 cm of the ramp. We then did the
math and got the initial velocity. After we solved for the position where
the ball will hit the floor ending the experiment.

VI. CONCLUSION:

For this experiment the initial velocity is in relation to where the

marble landed. Averaging all of our time that we collected our result was .
18. Using this and the height of the table we were able to determine the
landing spot for the marble. Suggestions for further study would to make
the times more accurate to get a better average. Time is crucial with
velocity to determine the landing spot for the marble.
