Gruvlok Water and Waste Water Treatment Products provide a system for the joining of grooved end ductile piping, grooved in
accordance with ANSI/AWWA C606. The product line consists of a full selection of couplings, flanges and fittings in the 3
through 24 sizes with operating pressures as high as 500 psig. A portable, user-friendly pipe cut groover can be purchased or
O
rented from Anvil to complement the Gruvlok System.

The heart of the Gruvlok System is the Figure 7901 AWWA coupling. For most size connections, just two bolts are needed to
quickly and reliably assemble each joint. The coupling housings are cast ductile iron per ASTM A536 and are coated inside and
outside with a rust inhibiting lead-free paint. Couplings are provided with oval neck track bolts and heavy hex nuts which are
zinc electroplated standard. The head of the oval neck track bolts prevents the bolts from turning as the nuts are tightened.

The Figure 7912 Flange allows direct connection of Class 125 or 150 flanged components to the grooved piping system. The
housings are cast ductile iron per ASTM A536 and are coated inside and outside with a rust inhibiting lead-free paint. Most sizes
use an easy swing over hinge with a latch bolt for quick and easy assembly.
L

The fittings are cast ductile iron per ASTM A536 with grooved end meeting the dimensional specifications of ANSI/AWWA C606.
The wall thickness of the fittings is in compliance of ANSI/AWWA C153 or C110 standards for ductile iron fittings. The fittings
are coated with a rust inhibiting lead-free paint. Other coatings and linings are available to meet your needs and specifications.

The Gruvlok System uses molded Halogenated Butyl gaskets that can be used in temperatures ranging from -20 to 200F. The
gaskets pressure responsive designs respond to increasing pressure by increasing the sealing force to provide a leak-tight seal on
the rough surface of ductile iron pipe.

The assembly of the AWWA couplings is fast and straightforward, simplifying training and greatly reducing installation time. No
V

other connecting system can offer all these benefits:

Lowest total installed costs, plus reduced operating costs

Easy field or shop preparation of pipe ends takes less time than threading or welding, and with fewer
bolts involved the couplings are quick to install. Saves over 50% in time alone.
High end load capabilities without special restraints
Self-restraining design provides the advantages of a resilient seal without the need for added restraint.
Fewer bolts than a flanged system
Up to 75% fewer bolts, cuts installation time and reduces downtime for maintenance.
Provides options for a rigid and flexible connection
U

A simple adjustment to the pipe end groove makes any

pipe connection rigid, or allows controlled axial movement
and deflection to accommodate thermal expansion/
contraction, ground settlement or seismic activity.
Coupling allows full 360 pipe rotation
Eliminates two-holing required for flanged systems, and
avoids the alignment problems of a threaded system.
Affords infinite alignment opportunity, especially important
for tees, laterals, valves and equipment. Allows easy
rotation of pipes to equalize internal wear.
Simplifies disassembly and parts are fully reusable
R

Individual pipes, valves or equipment can be removed

easily without disturbing adjacent parts of system. Never a
need to wedge joints apart, and undamaged Gruvlok
couplings, gaskets and fittings can be reused.

THE GRUVLOK SYSTEM vs. FLANGED SYSTEMS

O
The Gruvlok System for joining pipe of AWWA sizes is designed to meet specifications as outlined in ANSI/AWWA C-606. A groove
cut into the ductile iron pipe provides a gripping area for the coupling to engage around the full pipe circumference. A specially for-
mulated elastomer gasket is fully enclosed by the ductile iron housings, with coupling housings joined by rugged, plated carbon steel
track bolts. The system is compatible with ductile iron pipe and easily accommodates cement, glass, epoxy or other pipe linings.

Next Page

The Figure 7912 AWWA Flange allows for the direct connection of Class 125 or 150 flanged components directly to a
AWWA ductile iron pipe grooved piping system.

The two halves of the 3 through 12 sizes are hinged and drawn together by a latch bolt which eases assembly onto the
O
pipe. The 14 through 24 sizes are four segments with overlapping bolt holes for increased joint strength. The flange gasket
provides a pressure responsive gasket on both the pipe and the mating flange.

Gruvlok AWWA flanges have designed in anti-rotation tangs, which bite into and grip the side of the pipe groove to provide
a secure, rigid connection.

Gruvlok AWWA Grooved Mechanical Piping Products Specification

General:
Gruvlok Grooved Mechanical Piping Products are designed for permanent or temporary above or below ground
installations in municipal and industrial water and waste water applications. Gruvlok couplings, flanges, fittings, valves
and other components may be used as a proprietary piping method, or listed as an alternative to welding, threaded or

O
flanged piping methods. Operating temperature range from -20F to +200F. The Gruvlok System is excellent for areas of
high seismic activity. The Gruvlok System of fittings and couplings is manufactured in compliance with ANSI/AWWA
Standard C606 - Grooved and Shouldered Joints.
Gruvlok coupling gaskets must be lubricated with approved lubricant as provided by Gruvlok, to assure proper
coupling gasket sealing. Gruvlok Lubricant is required. Other manufacturers gasket lubricants are not recommended,
and in certain applications - prohibited.
Gruvlok products must be installed in strict accordance with published Gruvlok Installation and Assembly Instructions.
