others with their time, talents and efforts.
This honor celebrates people who quietly

Health Benefits of Blazing Apple Cider Vinegar
Being a believer in homeopathic medi-

home remedies of the areas in which I
visit. While traveling to the rural moun-

ago, I learned of an old New England folk
remedy called fire cider and its numerous
healing and health properties, such as its
ability to strengthen the immune system,
detoxify the body and boost energy levels.
I soon put my own colorful spin on this
old-fashioned vinegar-based tonic and
created the perfect sweet and spicy blend
aimed at achieving maximum health ben-
efits.
I decided to change the name to Blaz-

of my health routine. So much so, that

purposes, but I also use as a marinade for

JKVs First Spiritual Life Symposium
David Made Us Think
By Rev. Darryl Powell, Spiritual Life Director
John Knox Village recently held its First Spiritual Life
Symposium and was attended by over 50, mostly resident
participants. David Orange presented the theme of Removing the
Fences Around God. David is a Chaplain to the Jewish community
at St. Johns Home in Rochester, NY.
He is also a community educator in matters of Jewish life, faith
and religion in general. His teaching goal is to make his students
think: About other peoples faith; about God in ways that may be
new to the student, and to think about what we believe and why.
In his opening remarks, he said he did not come to John Knox
Village to change anyones faith or religion, adding that he expected
people to disagree with him, even strongly, and that would be a
good outcome.
By the end of the three-day Symposium, we could say with
certainty that we were all challenged to think about God in ways we
have never considered before. We found some ideas that resonated
with our faith and there were A-ha! moments of clarity. We even
discovered that some of his ideas were offensive to our own images
and understanding of God. He made us think.
The first day was focused on comparing different world religions John Knox Village Spiritual Life Director Darryl Powell
and their concepts of God. We discovered many similarities between introduced Chaplain David Orange on one of the three
days in which he was the moderator of our Inaugural

energy that originally came from God and was God.
By day three, our brains were starting to tingle. Davids ideas
were becoming more challenging to understand and difficult
to incorporate into our existing ideas about God. Day three was
devoted to the question, Who and What are We?
We wrestled with understandings of The Soul from the
perspective of different faith traditions. We considered the
differences between soul, mind, consciousness, physical and
spiritual reality. We were challenged to consider that what we
truly are is not our bodies. What we are is spirit, mind and body all
intertwined. And what about reincarnation? Does it happen? Who
believes it and why? He concluded with a concept that our being
and Gods being are intertwined in ways that are closer than we can
ever comprehend.
The reactions to the Symposium have been varied. The

GREEN HOUSE Training - The First of Many

The Woodlands at John Knox Village hosted its first of many
Green House Core Educator Training Workshops, in March.
Key leaders from THE GREEN HOUSE Project organization
came to John Knox Village and met with future GH Educators
from around the country, as they prepare to either open, or bolster
training, at their respective communities.
The trainees enjoyed using the training room for a five-day
session and visited many of the 12 open and operating Green
House homes in The Woodlands.
The classroom training was enhanced by daily team-building
exercises, guest speakers (Educators and Guides) from JKV,
interactions with the Elders, Shahbazim and Nurses in the homes.
Mark Rayner, Director of Administration at The Woodlands,
elaborated that the first-ever training class held at John
Knox Village was a huge success filled with many learning
opportunities, which were only surpassed with the incredible Key leaders from THE GREEN HOUSE Project and future

Definitely not on the rebound from her husband, Marnie literally

Marnie must learn to let someone in instead of earnestly prying
