Indonesia is highly vulnerable to natural disasters. Kendari is one of the cities in
Indonesia, which is also vulnerable to natural disasters especially floods. Therefore, it is
important to present information on vunerable flood areas based Geographic Information
System (GIS) so that people know which areas are vulnerable to flooding.
Geographic Information System (GIS) is an information system that is used to input,
save, recall, process, analyze and produce geospatial or geographically referenced data, to
support decision making for the planning. By using GIS, it will be easier for the decision makers
to analyze the data. Because with the GIS, it will be described also the position of the spread of
data on the actual condition.
In this last Project, the author made a design of Geographic Information System(GIS)
using ArcGIS applications to determine the flood prone areas in Kendari, those are flood runoff
and flood puddle using ArcGIS 9.3. From the establishment of GIS application is expected in the
understanding of the flood conditions that provide additional knowledge for the society to be
aware of Kendari areas - flood-prone areas and be able to participate in a form of flood
mitigation efforts in disaster mitigation.
