ANNUAL REPORT A.Y.

2016-2017

The academic year 2016-2017 has ended. Even though I only came in
the last half of the year, I can say that it was truly a memorable experience
for me. I learned a lot and memories worth remembering will be cherished
for a very long time (I must say). First and foremost, I am thankful to the CN
Team composed of Dean Nenita P. Tayko, Maam Janet Gaddi, Maam Deborah
Anne Rota, Mr. John Robert General, Maam Soccorro Palarpalar, Mr. Kennith
Misamis, Maam Hannah Remata and Ms. Mailyn Gaudia for truly making the
semester worthwhile. Despite, me being a part time clinical instructor only, I
can really feel how loved I was by the whole team. Truly I am so much
grateful also to Foundation University as a whole for accepting me in the
University.
A recap of what happened in the 2nd semester:
On November 18, 2017, I was accepted to work as a part-time clinical
instructor in the College of Nursing. I handled level III students in their
clinical exposure in Surgery Ward. So much weight was on me since I knew I
had to really work hard and double time on my effort since it was my first
time to be in the academe. I had to study and go on re-orientation in NOPH
at the same time. When the time came when I had to bring students already
in the area, I really see to it that they will learn a lot. They had to come in
early in the morning so that all of us could discuss the cases of their patients
and rationalize why this and that happened. After that, we listened to the
endorsement and had nurses rounds. The students took the vital signs of
their patients and monitored the blood pressure of some patients not under
their care. Most of them were able to administer PO, IVTT, sublingual,
intradermal, and intramuscular medications. I gave them the freedom to
break ampules and aspirate medications from a vial as well. Most of what
they learned in their lectures, I let them perform it with confidence in the
area. Throughout the entire semester, I am so grateful to our God Almighty
for guiding us and to my previous clinical instructors when I was still a
student since without them I would not be able to perform my duty as a
clinical instructor effectively.
The best part of being in the academe is when you are being evaluated
by the students and your superiors will tell you that you did a good job and
the students learned a lot from the experience they had in the area. It was a
heartwarming moment and forever I will treasure it in my heart. I do hope
that the students will not forget what they learned in the area though. For
me, that is the most important thing.
During the course of the semester as well, I was given an opportunity
to do the return demonstrations to half of the level III population, and some
procedures in level I also. I gave them scenarios and they had to perform it
with ease and efficiency.
At the later part also of 2nd semester, I got to handle 3 level IV students
in their extension duty in NOPH. It was an overwhelming experience but I do
hope that they will improve their skills when they become registered nurses.
Hoping and praying that they will safeguard their clients well-being above all
else in the future.
Hopefully all the students under my supervision will exemplify what a
true FoundatioNurse is in the real world. With all this in mind, I hope that the
faculty and staff and the students will work hand in hand to maintain or to
improve the nursing education in Foundation University. Thank you for the
experience, Foundation University!

Yours truly,

PETER A. ORLINO
