Chapter 2

Of God and of the Holy Trinity


1. The Lord our God is but one only living and true God;
I Corinthians As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in
8:4 sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that
there is none other God but one.
I Corinthians For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as
8:5 there be gods many, and lords many,)
I Corinthians But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we
8:6 in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Whenever evil people plan to destroy the Lord’s people, not only do they loose, they
actually unwittingly glorify him. The best example of that is the crucifixion of Jesus
Christ. Jesus was in complete control of his entire crucifixion.

God controls the power of the kings and the heart of the kings
Proverbs The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he

- It is all done for His glory.

It can only be known by revelation—not reason alone. Divine revelation is a matter of


sovereign freedom. We know only what He has revealed to us.

Hebrews Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are
4:13 naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

his knowledge is infinite, infallible, and independent upon the creature, so as nothing is to
him contingent or uncertain;

3. In this divine and infinite Being there are three subsistences, the Father, the Word or
Son, and Holy Spirit,
I John For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy

Q: We discussed the definition of monotheism and polytheism, could
this be tritheism as suggested by non believers?

A: God forbid. There is only one living and true God, and Jesus is the
image of God.

all infinite, without beginning, therefore but one God, who is not to be divided in
nature and being, but distinguished by several peculiar relative properties and personal
relations; which doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation of all our communion with God,
and comfortable dependence on him.
