INTRODUCTION Technical Overview

1. INTRODUCTION
Information is a key asset of all businesses. To achieve a sustainable competitive advantage, utilities must be able to
adapt quickly to change. Reduced time to decision and action is critical for improving quality and productivity. This
makes the timely collection, transformation and distribution of reliable information a significant issue. In today's business
environment, one of the barriers to increased productivity is aggregating data from a myriad of disparate sources,
transforming it into meaningful information, and presenting it to operations, maintenance, engineering, and management
in the context most meaningful to them. Information Management functions are inherent to ABB's Industrial IT 800xA
system. PGIM belongs to the Symphony Plus product family.

1.1 Technical Overview

Historical, process and business data is collected from available sources and stored securely. The data is transformed
into meaningful information, which is presented to each decision maker in a manner that is easy to understand. This
provides support at every level in the organization to improve efficiency and profitability.
Power Generation Information Manager (PGIM) offers a company-wide architecture that performs these functions:
Collecting, archiving and consolidating data from production facilities, control systems, and commercial
systems.
Conducting remote diagnostics on numerous plant components.
Visualizing and analyzing process parameters with a convenient user interface.
Making data available to other evaluating applications (e.g. for performance calculation, operation schedule
optimization, EXCEL reporting).
Delivering process parameters, status variables and counter readings to maintenance and financial systems.
PGIM is a product of ABB's Symphony Plus and Industrial IT family. It can be used as a stand alone information
rd
management system for ABBs but also for 3 party control systems as well it is integrated in System 800xA. And its
designed for long-term protection of asset investment.

Hardware SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Hardware
Standard PC, Configuration must meet the performance requirements of application in terms of
Total number of logs
Total number of clients
PGIM and special applications
Number of transactions/sec (configuration of signal, process dynamic, etc.)
Expected response time

For new installations please follow these recommendations for the PGIM server:

Minimum requirements (small systems only analog history)

Standard PC
Intel Core i3-3220 Dual-Core-Processor (3,3 GHz)
2 GB Memory (4 GB in 64 bit operating systems)
hard disks as required.
All components proven for 24/7

Minimum requirements (small systems only event history)

Standard PC
Intel Core i3-3220 Dual-Core-Processor (3,3 GHz)
2 GB Memory (4 GB in 64 bit operating systems)
hard disks as required.
All components proven for 24/7

Minimum requirements (small systems with analog and event history)

Standard PC
Intel Core i5-3550 Quad-Core-Processor (3,3 GHz) or Intel Xeon E5-1603 (Quad-Core, 2,8 GHz)
3 GB Memory (8 GB in 64 bit operating systems)
hard disks as required.
All components proven for 24/7

Recommended configuration (standard systems with analog and event history)

Standard PC or Server
Intel Core i7-3770 Quad-Core-Processor (3,4 GHz) or Intel Xeon E5-1603 Processor (2,8 GHz)
4 GB Memory (8 GB in 64 bit operating systems)
Hard disks as required
All components proven for 24/7
It is not allowed to run any other non PGIM software packages on the above mentioned configurations to ensure the
stability and performance of the system.
If you plan to run reports or the PGIM WebServer on a PGIM server computer please make sure to add enough
provision to the computer hardware, e.g. instead using a Pentium use a Intel Quad Core CPU and faster disks. In any
case this function is limited to small systems only.

Also have in mind that systems which improve the reliability of the computer such as RAID disks typically slow down the
computer performance. For RAID 5 the speed is only faster if a high number (at least 8) disks are used. In contrast
PGIM redundancy improves the performance or the overall system!

If a high volume of clients is expected then the performance can be improved by:
CPUs with faster cycle time
Usage of solid state disks
Redundant PGIM Server
While there are big differences today in solid state disks, those with a high reliability and throughput (read/write) should
be used.

2.2 PGIM Client

Standard modern desktop PC, no special type, follow the advise from the operating system
Examples: Intel Core i3-3220 Dual-Core-Processor (3,3 GHz)

IMPORTANT CHANGES AND FEATURES Installation Advice

3. IMPORTANT CHANGES AND FEATURES

3.1 Installation Advice

This release is available as a complete installation CD. You can use this CD for a complete new installation or as an
update of your existing installation. This release of PGIM includes all prior hot fixes.
For updates of already installed systems, please also read the section Updates of the PGIM Administration manual.
Attention: in some cases (e.g. on a Connectivity Server) the system may ask for a reboot.
-> If you are asked for a reboot then please do this!
-> be careful on redundancy servers:
- start release installation on one node.
- check, whether installation time was short enough to avoid a redundancy failure
- if the redundancy still works and no balance process is running you can proceed
installing release on second server node.
- if redundancy fails during release installation then
WAIT FOR END OF BALANCING PROCESS!
and then continue installing second server node!!

3.2 Order of Service Release installation on 800xA Systems

In general there is no strong advice.
Recommendation is:
- first the PGIM Servers
- then the Connectivity Servers
- then all Clients
Avoid mixed systems where only parts have been updated to the latest version of PGIM.

4. CHANGES IN DETAIL

4.1 Web client trend

The "Add signal" dialogue can't show signals with "," inside the description field. This has been corrected.

4.2 PG2 graphics player

PG2 graphics player integration in PGIM Web Client did not support certain shapes and properties.
The support has been added for
"line" property of Text shape,
"font-weight" property of text shape
bitwise operation on integer type in an array
"Float" function in expression

4.3 PG2 graphics player performance

The PGIM Thin Web graphics player was slowing down when querying data from the 800xA OPC Server.
The reason was that the PG2DataWeb service added the same items multiple times in the subscription.
This caused a significant loss in performance and has been corrected.

4.4 800xA LogConfi Sync Service

It could happen on redundant history servers that on a 800xA Synchronisation Lost" event the LogConfiSync service corrupted the
history servers index.
The behavior has been changed so that after "Synchronisation Lost" events (e.g. an Aspect server restarts) LogConfi Sync service
will be restarted to assure a synchronization with the platform.

4.5 PGIM SignalExplorer

4.5.1 Save Trend not working

The "Save Trend" function from SignalExplorer was not working correct in PGIM 5.1.1 under Windows 2008 and Windows7

2VAA003078 11
PGIM 800xA AE Collector CHANGES IN DETAIL

A new version of sysinfo.ocx has been integrated into the setup that corrects the issue.

4.5.2 Signal Explorer User Interface flickering

The user interface of Signal Explorer was flickering during a long signal list update. The code was changed in order to overcome
this issue.

Signals shown with wrong units

Several signals were shown in the PGIM SignalExplorer with wrong units. By doing a "Refresh" in the server neighboorhood , the
dimension of the server signal alternates between nothing and the correct dimension. This behavior was corrected.

4.6 PGIM 800xA AE Collector

The PGIM 800xA AE Collector service had issues with handle and memory growing in redundant configuration (access to remote
registry not closed). This has been corrected.

4.7 PCLogsLib add-in with Excel 2007/2010

"PCLogsLib.xlam" did not automatically update the reference from "PClogsLib.xla" to "PCLogsLib.xlam" ( e.g. when updating from
Excel 2003 to Excel 2010). An automatically update has been built into the component.

4.8 Alarm Portal new Excel Templates

In the AlarmPortal not all Excel templates were working correctly. A new set of Reports (APR*) based on Query Tables have been
introduced with this version.

4.9 PGIM DB Limiter failed deleting events

Under certain circumstances DBLimiter no longer deleted old events after having done so for some days. This has been corrected.

4.10 PGIM EventExplorer

4.10.1 PGIM Event Explorer with 800xA did not match the 800xA Security
To match the security guidelines Event Explorer no longer allows every user to access an arbitrary folder of the file system.
Only system administrators are allowed to access the file system.
Also only system administrators are allowed to change Event Explorer settings. This restriction can be switched off by setting:
AlwaysEnableConfigure to 1 in the section [Application] of the event explorers configuration file (PlaCoEvents.ini).
Example:
[Application]
AlwaysEnableConfigure=1

4.10.2 PGIM EventExplorer use wrong text size after changing a filter setting
After the user had modified and applied a filter the headers of the event list had been shown using a wrong font. This has been
corrected.

4.10.3 Event Explorer 5.11 terminates when having subfolders

If the filters had been organized using subfolders, Event Explorer has stopped working by several user interactions, e.g. when the
user:
- opened a filter
- opened the configuration dialog
This has been corrected.

4.11 PGIM HDA Transmitter value transfer problem

PGIM HDA Transmitter was reading wrong values (the same value for all items in one interval).
This has been corrected.

12 2VAA003078
CHANGES IN DETAIL Reserved Ports configuration enhancement

4.12 Reserved Ports configuration enhancement

The installation procedure has been enhanced.
In case of a fresh installation (not an upgrade from an older version) the setup presents a warning message if a port that is used by
PGIM is already reserved for another application.
Example:
In 800xA systems the port 4242 might be already reserved by 800xA AfwAppLogService.
This warning tells the user that a manual configuration of PGIM is required to use another port.

4.13 PGIM Server

4.13.1 Difference in archive size on redundant PGIM servers

Sometimes the servers of a redundant PGIM displayed different archive sizes. This was corrected in the server. To enable the
correction you need to add a ini key ONE server in the PlaCo.ini file, located in %PGIMSYSTEMPATH\Server

[Server.Setting]
SyncMaster=1

4.13.2 Various PGIM server improvements

Various improvements for stability specifically in redundant configuration and performance improvements were conducted in this
release.

4.14 Documentation for MARK VIe Scanner added

Documentation was improved in order to describe in more detail the configuration for the MARK V/VI/Vie.

4.15 PGIM PProt Scanner takes 100% CPU

The PGIM PProtScanner Scandriver for Melody with O-Net does cause when stopped a ScanManager Prozess that takes 100%
CPU.
While terminating the PGIM ScanManager the Melody- (PProt-) Scanner consumed all availiable CPU resources. This is corrected
with an updated pprot-library.

4.16 PGIM SystemDiagnostic wrong state of "ReportScheduler Service"

The SystemDiagnostic wasn't able to display the correct state of the "Report Scheduler Service". This was caused by a changed
internal service name.
