Dear Sir,
Further to previous correspondence, your request for information has now been considered,
and the councils response is set out below:
Q1 I wish to know if the council tax bill produced and issued by the council confirms
with the Bills of Exchange Act 1882 all recorded information you hold is required. If
your council bill does not conform please give the reasons why.
A. I have been advised that The Local Government Finance Act 1992 and associated
regulations are the legal provisions which govern the assessment, billing and
collection of Council Tax. This form of taxation is one of the methods by which local
government is funded. Council Tax demand notices are issued to notify liable
persons of the amounts they are required to pay.
This form of local taxation is completely unrelated to bills of exchange, which forms
the basis by which monetary transactions are achieved.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request or you would like a review of the
response provided, please contact me on the contact details given at the top of this letter.
