GROWING REGIONAL PARTIES IS WAY FOR MORE DEMOCRACY?

Taste of democracy is so relished that in recent years it over turnout monarchies and start
building their own kind of democracy. Democracy is not where people elect their
representatives through casting votes. Certainly it has more than that meaning. These
democracy start governing through representing people, called Parties.

Party is the one which shares the common interest and belief and when it seeks for power
that can be termed as political party. These kind of party usually having more macro issues
with them, long term vision and organized strategy. These can be different types depending
upon its kind. For instance the party depending upon attaining seats called National party,
State party, regional party or local party. (All state and National parties qualifications are
based upon the Election commission). Further depending upon interest there are various type
of organization called pressure group, interest group, causal group etc.

What should be aim of these parties?

It acts as a barometer for the work done by government. Has a right to herd for the
benefits of its member and people of the country at large. Share and work for the common
ideology of their respective parties.

It is general belief that parties always have the interest of the common group and always
seek the solution for its members, Particular about the local parties. It will to create pressure
on acting government through agitation if there are not heard. These pressure can be seems as
creating bands, rallies, Non-cooperation etc.

The parties at the national level represent the interest of the country at large. Similarly at
state level will represents state level party. To maintain such a large country certainly some
issues will be unresolved and which can be certainly take care by these local parties.

Regional parties have small issues looking for quick solutions and more over narrow down
on the regional issues rather than broader issues.

However in recent days elections had raise a doubt and put again into the scrutiny of
democratic principles that regional party is good for democracy at national level?

The rise of regional parties like in various states like JDU in the bihar, AIDMK and
DMK in Tamil Nadu, Telugu desam in Andhra Pradesh, Akali dal in Punjab, Shiv sena at
Maharastra, etc from early one party to many party. This is a serious concern.

These parties represent local issues and won vote banks by making a pan-India issue
taking cues from caste, regionalism, and some based on own money power. This could be a
threat to the nationalist ideology and at large to the democracy itself. Symptom of inequality
prevails in society. Which cannot be look as a only question per say.

On the positive side there are always deals with the critical issues which may want to
seek solution for the any community or a one section of the society. Untidily of all these
regional party can effectively solve the problems of democratic government, where
government listen all minority and majority party view and make synthesis of both that can
be step towards true democracy.

But in the democracy like India where dealing with diverse community interest has to be
mosaic and running country would be far different scenario than caring of one. In other
words dealing different issues and that too with objectivity can be subjected to a question. In
future it may open the doors for conflicts and indulge in corruption is no strange for this.

We can draw these inferences from the scandal we see right from the Rajiv Gandhi
Government period Bofors case to till todays Coal gate scam. As the more parties grow the
more the scandals has come.

Contradictory to this view one can hope by claiming that since there has rich experience
regarding solving the internal problems of people. There can easily handle the idea and solve
the one section problems. If their do so? Then why cannot their go for rest of the country at
large?

But the actual picture depicts that many parties creating the hurdle in the democratic
process through way of narrow interest and reason for the instability in politics of the
country. We can sense this in part of collision government period represent this show.

Some positive effects like Increase in competitiveness among the parties and better make
better framing with implementing of policies. As there are constantly updating with the
country problems at large.

Further there chase the power for the welfare of people on the societal issues, showing as
the messiah of minorities. But on other side it would be gate of crony capitalism, criminalization
of politics, favoritism, corruption, tiding hands for the elephant democratic government in this
collision government era.

Exceptionally again the question arises lack experience in handling the all confidence of
all mosaic communities. In achieving this herculean task many parties failed. But rise of
recently AAP party development on the ground of corruption showed some positive results in
the wining confidence of people at Delhi. But the success of it is yet to be tested.
 In conclusion I can say as it would be premature to draw any conclusion. As it is a
churning process where there can be positive and negative on both side. Emerging the
regional parties is a part and parcel of the democracy. Further in democracy we do
experiment. And I hope regional parties at national level would come as avatar for the
country at a time where inequality in all sphere prevails. At large, attaining equality society
from inequality is the dream of many great leaders including Mahatma Ghandiji.
