CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTIONS

1.1 BACKGROUND

Numbers are paramount in the calculation. As in the world of civil

engineering who very often did calculations to determine the right size in
terms of which will be realized.
Development activities to create a sturdy building material we need to
know the right ratio so that the building could last a long time. To find this
comparison we have to calculate the ratio of the right material in order to
become mortal high quality. The calculation process can be expressed by
the numbers. For example, we want to make the concrete, we had to make
a comparison mortal beforehand.

1.2 PURPOSE
1. We can know the definition of number and concrete .
2. We can know the links between number and concrete.

1.3 PROBLEM FORMULATIONS

1. What is the definition of number and concrete?

2. What are the types of concrete?
3. What is the advantages and disadvantages of concrete?
4. How is the links between number and concrete?

DISCUSSION

2.1 Definition of Number and Concrete

In Indonesia, number means the symbols which indicate a number.
While the concrete itself is a homogeneous mixture of water, sand
and aggregate.
Concrete is a thing that contains a mixture of sand, gravel /
crushed stone / aggregate lying the mixed becoming one with a paste
made of cement and conditioning the shaping a future The Very much
like a stone. can be used to review make foundation, beam, shell
plate, floor plate, Etc.

There are some types of concrete:

1. Normal Concrete.
2. Reinforced Concrete.
3. Prestressed Concrete.
4. The Composite Concrete.

That affects the strength of concrete is:

1. The quality of cement.
2. The position of the cement in the concrete mix.
3. The strength and cleanliness aggregate.
4. Sufficient mixing of ingredients forming concrete.
5. Cure concrete.

2.2 Advantages and Disadvantages

In the state of hardened concrete will be very hard as stone. But in
a state like fresh concrete slurry so malleable. So that the general line
of the advantages and disadvantages of concrete are:

Advantages of concrete:
1. Can be formed with as you wish.
2. Being able to shoulder the burden of heavy pressure.
3. Resistant to high temperatures.

Disadvantages of concrete:
1. The form that has made it difficult to change.
2. Its implementation requires a high accuracy.
3. Weight.
4. Not having a pull strength.

2.3 The links between number and concrete

2
In the concrete calculations we use numbers, so if you want to
calculate a concrete building we use the figures referred to by
number.

Example:

There is a water channel made entirely of concrete. It is planned

that the channel length is 500 meters. Try to count how m3 volume
required for the casting of the waterway?

Answer:

- A1=((0,84 m + 0,80 m):2) x 0,12 m = 0,0984 m2

- A2=(0,15 x 0,79) x 2 = 0,237 m2
-Atotal= 0,0984 + 0,237 = 0,3354 m2
- Volume Concrete floors and walls Channels

0,3354 x Channel length= 0,3354 m2 x 500 m = 167,7 m3
