Graphics Processing Unit, GPU is an electronic circuit used to speed up the crea
tion of both 2D and 3D images in computer. By having a separate processor, the G
PU allows the computer's CPU resources to be used for other important tasks. GPUs can either be integrated which means that they are built into the computer' s CPU semiconductor die or in the mother-board. They can be dedicated which means that they are a separate piece of hardware kno wn as a video card or graphic card. GPUs on stand-alone cards include their own memory (RAM), while GPUs in the chip set or CPU chip share main memory with the CPU. Technologies such as SLI by Nvidia and CrossFire by AMD allow multiple GPUs to draw images simultaneously for a single screen ,i.e. the processing of 2d and 3d images has been made faster.
