I add this, what will it say?
5. We were creating silly words out of the letters he mixed.
6. Seeing the alphabet board beside me, I pointed to the C

loud, O

use them? Why have you 2 Teaching Strategies:
chosen these strategies? 1. Paraphrase Reflections: By restating what the child
had said, I am solidifying what he has learned and
prompting the child to continue and expand on what
they were saying. When the child says a word that
corresponds with the letter we are doing, it allows the
child to remember it more clearly and gain a sense of
accomplishment when a correct word is said.
2. Guided Practice: Using this opportunity to extend the
childs learning, I continually repeat and ask the same
things over and over so the child is able to learn the new
words and letters. Repetition is the basic premise in
which children are able to learn effectively, and by
repeating what the child says and extending on it, I am
also extending the childs learning experience.

- What did you learn? because:
1. The child was able to engage and make new learning
advancements in terms of his literary development. It
was a simple activity that really helped further
vocabulary skills, letter recognition and phonological
awareness. The child could recognize letters and give
words that correspond to the letter and letters he found
difficult he attempted and asked for assistance when he
didnt know.
2. Other children were able to engage in the activity as
well as they yelled words they knew or were familiar in
reference to the letter being discussed.
3. I was able to see and observe where the children/child

was overwhelming to add another aspect to the activity.
I learned that it is possible to create opportunities for further
learning and development at any point in the day with children.
They are naturally curious and they discover new things within
a matter of minutes. Its time to extend learning but to create
new opportunities for development is difficult.
Next time I would like to create a more formal cognitive
activity thatll really help enhance and extend the childrens
literacy skills. In addition, Id like to extend the activity as a
group/learning experience rather than an individual one so that
the children learn and engage with one another on their
discoveries.
