Describe how you would use the Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in
your classroom: As a conclusion to the read-aloud, The Camping Trip that Changed
America, students will write a letter to their principal asking for a nature trail,
greenhouse, or any other conservation effort idea that they might have. Their ideas should
reflect and be inspired by the book we read in class. Students will create their own
writing, once it is edited and revised, students will type their letters, and post to the
KidPub website where their work would be published. Students can get feedback or other
ideas from students in other schools. This will enhance their learning experience.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a
classroom? A computer.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them
may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often
beyond their school: Students can share their writing with their peers in class, and
with the other students on the collaboration website.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original data and or
producing original products as a result of engaging in the project): Students will
collect data about their own school and community as it relates to conservation. This
will help them see what would truly benefit their community.
c. Higher-order thinking: How can we apply the book to our daily lives? How has Teddy
Roosevelts efforts affected us today? How can we do our own part in conserving our
environment?
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their
product: Students will publish their work on KidPub. It must follow privacy guidelines
and must have consent from the parents to complete this project.

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and Why?

mentors outside of their classroom/ school. They will share their product/ outcome with an
audience beyond students, staff and parents in their classroom/school. Publication on KidPub, will
be meaningful, important and useful as an experience for students to have published work online.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with your districts
Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies? Meeting privacy and internet safety regulations,
along with signed consent forms within the class, will allow students the opportunity to be able to
complete this assignment. Approval by administration would also be necessary for this assignment
to take place.
