project detailing the broad problems of food insecurity
and the multiple solutions urban agriculture has to
offer cities and an examination of the West Oakland
based People’s Grocery organization to see how they
are using urban agriculture as a way to strive for food
justice. We acquired our data for the literature review
and West Oakland information by examining academic
studies, technical documents and online reports. Our
information about People’s Grocery was acquired from
interviewing two of the co-founders Brahm Ahmadi
and Malaika Edwards, and supplemented with informa-
tion from their website, annual report and media cover-
