Assessment
By using the clothespins and plate, the child will match the amount of dots with the corresponding
number.
Procedu
re
Before 1 Number the edges of the yellow plate with numbers 1-10. You may use larger numbers or
the more numbers depending on the abilities and ages of your children. You will want to space
lesson out the numbers on the edge of the plate so when you clip the clothespin on it will look like
sun rays.
2 On each clothespin with a sharpie marker, write different amounts of dots. Each
clothespins should have a different amount of dots, 1-10.
During 1 Call the children over, giving each child their own plate and set of clothespins.
the 2 Have them count the dots on the first clothespins and clip it to the
lesson corresponding number on the edge of the plate.
3 Have them continue until they have completed each clothespin and the plate
resembles a sun with all ten rays attached.
Have the child take the clothespins off for the next child. Have them name the numbers as they
remove them.

lesson
Adaptions/Reflections
Overall, it went well. I did have to make the numbers larger for the second group of students so
it would be easier to count one to one correspondence, as some of the students were touching the
dots to count and they were too small for counting.

Assessment
Using their hand-eye coordination, the child will demonstrate stringing penne pasta on the linguine
noodles.
Procedu
re
During 1 Have the child sting the rays with penne pasta.
the 2 They could complete every ray until they are full or simply give them a certain
lesson amount to string on.
After the Follow up a discussion on how the sun shining down forms what looks like rays of light. Have the
lesson child remove the pasta for the next child.
Adaptions/Reflections
The children enjoyed this. The only thing to change up is to make sure the noodles are far
enough in the playdough so it doesnt fall over, and make sure the noodles are far enough apart
to where the child has room to work. In the first group, they were too close together and they
kept breaking on the child.

Adaptions/Reflections:
I needed to encourage some of the children to keep drawing on their coffee filter, otherwise
some of them ended up looking kind of plain.

Assessment
Using the dice, the child will recognize the number, write it, and count out that many pieces.
Procedu
re
Before 1 You will need the game mat (I found mine from Teachers Pay Teachers). See attached
the example.
lesson 2 You can also create your own. It will need to say, Roll it with some extra room on there
for the child to work, Write it with more space, and Count it with more added space.
3 Finally, you will need to laminate the game mat.
During 1 Have the child roll the dice and count up the dots.
the 2 Have the child write that number on the game mat with a dry erase marker.
lesson 3 Have the child count out that many beads or whatever you use.
After the The child can erase the number and repeat the process until they lose interest.

Adaptions/Reflections:
This was a great game to play for assessing their abilities. One child was actually helping
another one who could not remember how to write a couple of numbers. At the last minute, I
adapted this lesson to have the children help each other to collaborate and work as a team to
finish the lesson.
