From Scrubbing Floors to Ivy League by Vivian Kuo, a young girl by the name of Dawn
Loggins is a janitor and a student as well. She has had a rough time. Because she was
abandoned by her drug addicted parents. She has had a harder time in life than most do at a
young age. All alone and ready for college. She has no support system at home but has created
an amazing life for herself. Continuing her education and keeping good grades.
To The colleges that rejected me is a piece satirically written by Suzy Weiss who is
unhappy about not getting into her choice colleges. Weiss believes she was not admitted
because she lacked diversity but diversity is not a choice. She states that you must be unique,
you must be unique, but fit in to these standards. But, they pick based on how they think you
will do in their university. Weiss is shocked that she did not get in, how dare they not pick this
privileged teenager! Always wanting to fit in might not be how the colleges want to you to go
I think the main differences is the level of caring. Suzy Weiss cares way too much about
Ivy League while Dawn Loggins doesnt mind where she goes; she just wants to go to college.
Dawn Loggins honestly just wants to learn while Suzy Weiss wants to be treated the very best.
These two stories remind me of the princess and the pauper. That is what the photo on the next
page is.
