Name: Briana Williams

PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.
Children can produce their own podcast with words they have found that began with a specific letter of the alphabet. Students
can work in groups and take turn spelling different words. Students will work with experts to practice spelling their words
correctly. The podcast will be uploaded online for other children to listen and learn from.
Grade Level: Kindergarten
Content Area: Conventions of standard English
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

Demonstrate command of the conventions for standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
d. Spell simple words phonetically, drawing on knowledge of sound letter relationships.

Brief Description of Learning Experience: As you address the standards, what will students and teachers do? How will
the project be introduced? How long will it take to complete? What audience will use/care about the multimedia projects
students are creating? How broad is this audience? How will student work be assessed and by whom? Who will provide
feedback to students about their work? (Overview should be a minimum of 2 paragraphs)

For the introduction, the teacher will review sight words and other short words that began with the letter A. Students will
recite how to spell the words correctly, and add a word to the list. Students will listen to the teachers recorded podcast as an
example for what they will be doing individually. Students will discuss which word they want to spell. The teacher will make a
list and have the class practice speaking in front of the class. For the shy students, they can say their words in small group or one
on one.
The idea of the project is to teach other children how to spell simple words that start with a specific letter. There are 5 letters
that the children will choose from, and they will have to find words that began with that letter. Examples include the letter A, C,
P, S or T. The podcast will be posted on the classrooms website and additional educational sites to help other children. The
teacher will assess the students on how well they spell the words. Feedback will come from the teacher and other staff members
of the school.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why? 4 because the children
will spell the words themselves and choose which words they want to use. They will also choose which beginning letter they
want their words to start with. They will also work with experts to practice spelling their words.

Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?

Using multimedia will make the activity interesting for the students because they will be motivated to do their best. Knowing that
they are going to help others will excite the children because they get to be the teacher. Using multimedia will help children
remember how to spell words because this will create a fun experience for them.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how youd minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts Internet Safety/Use Policy.

Possible privacy issues may arise if children say their full names while recording. To prevent this, the teacher will go over safety
rules before the recording begins. The introductory/ending music has to be no more than 30 seconds unless the music is original
because of it is copyrighted. I will use music that is appropriate and only 30 seconds.
