Reflection on aot chapter 6 2

Reflection: This chapter reminds me to be SMART with my objectives in my unit plan and
lesson plans. The author assures the readers that planning the instruction is actually beneficial for
the novice teachers because first, they will have little to no teaching experience to draw upon.
Second, and understandably, they will be apprehensive and unsure of themselves and their
teaching skills. Third, they will not know what the students are expected to know and do. And
finally, given time to think and plan, teaching can be creative and fun. The author gave the
readers the state standards to know the expectations from a class (or) school no matter which
subject we are teaching. Under this topic is provided detailed explanations of factors influencing
state requirements, the societal expectations, the nature and needs of learners, and professional
societies with interests in education. Also, the author has provided the clear expectations of each
grade and standards the teachers should know and aim for throughout the year so that the
students can past the proficiency tests in order to go to higher grades. After this topic is another
topic about two different kinds of instructional objectives, a general instructional objective and
a specific one. I am more used to a general instructional objectives in my lesson plans and a
specific one in my unit plan. However, I have learned how important it is to also provide a
general instructional objective in my lesson plan because that will motivate my activities to be
more organized and goal-oriented. The one thing I have learned the most is putting my objectives
in three different kinds of boxes which are Cognitive Domain, Affective Domain, and
Psychometer Domain. After reading this, I tried to put all the objectives I have written so far to
see which box has more weight than the others or am I balanced and effectively using all of them
in my classes. This chapter has pulled me to a deeper level of preparation and submission to
teach. I have been reminded that teaching is the most honorable and scariest job in the world
because we are shaping our students through our words, lessons and actions. And for novice
teachers, it is okay to fail several times if we can learn from our mistakes and failures. And also,
it is important to read educational articles and journals much as possible for knowledge and
applications in the classroom.
