The Act of Teaching Chapter 9 is about evaluating students learning.

This

involves assessment, measurement and evaluation. Assessment is analyzing the

result of the activity in the class to assist the decision making in teaching. This means

that in assessment it determines which field is needed to be teach again and on

areas they improved a lot. On the other hand, measurement is the grading to the

student according to the result of their performance. This as well a kind of feedback

in a numeric way where they would see how much they earned. Moreover,

evaluation uses the assessment to determine the weaknesses not only of their own

teaching way but of the learners too. While assessment determines the transitioning

of the class, evaluation identifies the problems that hindrance learning.

Also, this chapter identifies the factors that influence assessment quality. First,

the sources of information that may came from students work and test shows the

knowledge achieve in the lesson. It allows at the same time for the teachers to see

the skills and accomplishments of the learners. Second, the accuracy of information

matters to meet the specific needs of improvement. Without specific information

such as the respond from students or loss of copy of test papers, it will be hard to

unclear to set up development plan. Lastly, validity of the information makes

measurement to until what extent such assessment is needed. This allows teacher to

mark their conclusions that some times will be applied to the whole class for the

whole year or to a single person in a month depending to the validity. This is the

reason why we have assessment to our whole unit planning and and to every lesson

planning.

In reflection to this, along the experience of creating lesson plan in Alignment

class, we have to create our assessments. It is hard to create assessment at first

because I did not understand it fully well. There are words that I thought at first

could be just change whenever I want but they actually have different definitions to

be use in academic vocabulary. In this chapter, I learned the differences between

assessment, measurement and evaluation. Particularly, I acknowledge the function

of assessment in leading to a deeper analysis of students learning - evaluation. So,

going back to writing a lesson plan, it was such a great improvement to read this

chapter. I learned to create assessment that directly supports the objective I made in

my lesson. Assessments that relate to the objectives are very important to make the

teaching organize and in sequence.

Relating to Biblical concept, assessment is like the judgment on the coming of

Jesus. We are on the developing of the lesson. We live our life. Other may be in the

path of righteousness and some in the lost way. Nevertheless on the coming of the

Jesus, there will be assessing of either who had perform the objectives He

commanded such as practicing the ten commandments, performing the great

commission, and accepted Christ as their Savior. In His assessment, everyone will be

judge one by one, recalling what they have done on earth and will take a step to

evaluation. It will be label the good and the bad things that have done. Then, an

individual will be judge to receiver eternal life in heaven or in hell. Regardless of the

measurement to the good and bad works, on the judgment God will work on His

grace to evaluation that some of those people whom we think will not be save but

will be save maybe because of their personal commitment to Jesus on their last

breath. But none of us could really say what will going to happen on the judgment,

only the In-charge knows. That is something we cannot comprehend because in

Gods perspective, He might have something he see that we did not see. Same in the
class, after evaluation, teachers may or may not fail the student depending on the

grace they deserve to receive. There might be student that thinks they will repeat

the class but will be surprise from the decision of the teacher. Teachers have their

own comprehension of their assessment and evaluation no matter what the numeric

result a student could have on the test. It all depends on the management of the

teacher in evaluating students.
