Dear Human Resources:

I am writing this letter to recommend Anjali Abraham in her application for a position teaching Chemistry and
Physics. Anjali has worked as a student teacher in Chemistry and Physics at Century High School this Spring
2017. She is confident and enthusiastic in working with our English Learner population, emphasizing the use of
tools for the visual organization of information, memory devices, the parsing of technical texts, and multi-modal
presentation and physical modeling to help maximize student comprehension and retention. She focuses on
incorporating numerous opportunities for students to participate in student-driven inquiry activities,
collaborative conversations, project based learning, and reasoning from evidence both verbally and in writing in
her classes. She has experience incorporating technology in the laboratory, using Vernier Lab Quests and
various probes for data collection and analysis, common computer software for scholarly collaboration,
presentation of findings, etc., and encourages students to develop independent study skills and the ability to
evaluate the credibility of information presented- in addition to developing writing and public speaking skills-
so that they are able to become well-rounded scholars and independent thinkers who can apply critical
reasoning skills to both academic and nonacademic pursuits throughout their lives.

Anjalis research in Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Science and Engineering Practices,
Disciplinary Core Ideas and Crosscutting Concepts has led her to focus on situating content information in
context: breaking down abstract information into small parts that are connected to observable situations so that
they are more meaningful, easier to understand, and more relevant to the lives of her students. Anjalis
dedication to this student population and aptitude at breaking down difficult content-specific information to
make it manageable and comprehensible for students with many different backgrounds and learning styles will
make her a valuable addition to the faculty.
