What I Learned in Class

During these past two class meetings we have learned different websites that can be used
to create presentations and share them with colleagues, friends, classmates, etc. Even though all
the websites can do the same, they all have a different way and presentation styles. And different
ways of presenting, some you can add videos, pictures, and sometimes files. You can convert the
presentation into video style or leave them as PowerPoint slide presentation. Some of the
websites have their cons and pros. For example, the one we used Slideboom when we upload it
to the website and view it, we notice that it would cut out the presentation and some of the
information would not show. One of the pros of Slideboom was that you had the opportunity to
look up for other slides that would give you a lot of different information, they were also in
many languages and from different places in the world.

Digital Literacy
Digital Literacy refers to being capable to use technology and to know when you can use
it and how you can use it. You can use it to catch the attention of the students using multiple
media when it comes to reading, and interpretation of text, sound, and images. It also includes
when a student uses technology appropriately and knows how to use it. Most of the students
learn how to use technology because of their teachers and parents. And even though they know
how to use technology in many ways, they dont know exactly in what ways to use it
appropriately. Some examples how it Digital Literacy is used:

Understanding how to use web browsers, search engines, email, text, blogs, etc.
Using online class to enhance learning in the classroom.
Encouraging students to use technology to showcase their learning.
Students and teacher creating online content to be used both in and out of the
classroom.
Some non-examples are:

Students dropping out of school to independently learn without guidance.

Using online media without knowledge or guidelines on how to know whether the
information is accurate or trustful.

Copyright and Fair Use for Teachers

Copyright provides legal protection from original creative works, for example, poetry,
movies, video games, photographs and software codes, and many more. Copyright holders are
those who are authorize and have rights that have been giving to them. Some right they have are:

Public display or performance work.

Distribute copies at work

The fair use to be able to use them have certain guidelines that have to be followed and
can be used without the permission of the copyright holder. There are four factors that can be
taken into consideration when using it:

Purpose and character use

Amount of work to be used
Nature of the work
Effect of any use on the market for the work

When using copyright without permission and following the guidelines given, can be
used for the following reasons if you are going to use them in news reporting, teaching, research,
etc. When it comes to being a teacher and not knowing how you can use it and in what kind of
media to use it, there are charts that can let you know until what point you can use copyright.

TPCK
TPCK is now also known as TPACK or in other words technology, pedagogy, and content
knowledge. It is a framework for teacher knowledge and is described in detail that is a complex
interaction between technology, pedagogy, and technology. This are used to produce the type of
being able to incorporate and being flexible to successfully integrate technology use into
teaching.

Content Knowledge (CK) and Pedagogical Knowledge (PK)

Content knowledge it is knowing for teachers knowledge about the subject matter to be
learned or taught. Knowledge of content is of critical importance for teachers, teachers should
understand the deeper knowledge fundaments of the discipline in which they teach.
Pedagogical Knowledge is mostly the same as content knowledge but the only difference
is that its deeper knowledge about the processes and practices or methods of teaching and
learning. Among other things, its overall education purposes, values, and aims. It also applies to
understanding how students learn, general classroom management skills, lesson planning, and
student assessment. Teachers with deeper pedagogical knowledge understand better how student
build their own knowledge and skills and how they build their habits of the minds and positive
encouragement towards learning.

Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition (SAMR)

Model
It is a framework in which you can assess and evaluate yourself the way you use
technology in your classroom. It is also use to see how computer technology can impact teaching
and learning.
Substitution

Means that computer technology is used to perform the same task as was done before
computers started to get used.
Ex: when students print out worksheet, finish it, and pass it in.
Augmentation

This is when computer technology offers an effective tool to perform common tasks that
are done. Ex: where students take a quiz using a google form instead of using the typical paper
and pencil.
Modification

This is one of the first steps that start enhancing the traditional goings-on of the
classroom and it transforms the classroom. In common classroom tasks are being accomplished
through the use of computer technology. Ex: students are being asked to write an essay around a
certain theme and an audio recording of the essay is being played along with the original
version of the musical soundtrack. The recording will be played in front of an authentic audience
for example, parents or college counselors.
Redefinition

This means that the computer technology will allow for new tasks that were almost
inconceivable. Ex: a classroom is asked to create a documentary video answering an essential
question related concepts. At this level, common classroom tasks and computer technology exists
and supports for student centered learning.
