In almost all in-vitro tests, epichlorohydrin has been found to be positive for gene cell mutagenicity.
In reverse mutation tests using rat typhoid bacillus, the chemical has been found to be positive with or
without the metabolic activation method. It has also been found to be positive in total mutation
assays using yeasts or bacteria, DNA damage tests, sister chromatid exchange (SCE) tests,
DNA excision tests, and mutation tests. Furthermore, the chemical has been found to be positive
in unscheduled DNA synthesis (UDS) tests with rat gastric mucosa and host mediated assays
using mice. 19)
It should be regarded as a chemical substance that may induce heritable mutation in human gene
cell
