Fennema Notes

Curriculum = organized content, skills, values

Macro-curriculum- consists of the big-picture, the scope-and-sequence of curricula within an

entire educational system

Micro-curriculum- deals with the individual units and lessons that are taught in particular
subjects or grades.

2 educational goals that were identified keyed:

Goal 1= (Revelation)=to know the sovereign and loving father in fulness through the three-fold
manifestation of His word and Spirit and, thus receive the new Life in fulness

Goal 2= (Response)=to seek the coming of Gods kingdom- his emanating and effectual
Presence-on earth by living life in fulness, that is, by being Christs faithful presence in all ways
and in all things, for his glory

Three steps for knowing the Father through His word:

Step 1of (Special) Revelation: knowing the Father through his Incarnate Word- the way

Step 2 of (Special) Revelation: knowing the Father through his Inscripturated Word- the truth

Step 3 of (General) Revelation: knowing the Father through his Word in Creation- the life

The mandate for education in the truth

Life or death.

Faithfulness to the word of God- covenant keeping- leads to life; unfaithfulness- covenant
breaking- leads to death.

Education is to guide children toward choosing life

Following are the three biblical reasons God- glorifying education is a mandate for parents

1. Because God is God

A scripture seldom if ever used to justify Christian education is, perhaps, its strongest
proponent
2. Because education is to be a testament of truth
Primary reason Christ came to earth was to testify to the truth
3. Because it is the covenantal responsibility of believing parents to their children (and
grandchildren)
This generational nature of this covenant is also reflected in the words of the apostle
Peter: The promise is for you and your children and for all who are afar off-for all whom
the Lord our God will call, and in the words of the apostle Paul
