APUSH Spring Break Assignment

Part 1: ID Webs
Spring Break Begins April 14th Classes Resume April 24th
This Assignment is DUE: First Class After Break

The Pitch

AP US History is as much about information recall AS IT IS about making connections. In an effort to both review
the material we have covered thus far and to look for those connections within the material, this assignment asks
you to make a web of IDs! The skeptics might think - That's silly this isnt kindergarten why should we doodle
a web!? Lets keep in mind dear skeptics that on the essay, DBQ, and short answers, synthesis and context
points will be given to those students who can put ID terms in relationship with one another. Simply knowing the
term represents a regular level history class. Understanding how two terms relate to one another represents a higher-
level history class. Lets rise to that occasion of higher-level work.

The Step by Step

Step 1: Pick three units out of the nine that we have studied.
Step 2: Access the IDs for the three units you choosestudy guides will be posted on the class blog:
www.historywalsh.weebly.com.
Step 3: Determine the most important 25 ID terms within the three units you choose. (Notice: You are not required
to work with every single ID on each ID list/end of respective chapters. Just rationalize the top 25 according to
your perspective)
Step 4: Access one sheet of computer paper. Draw the 25 bubbled terms you have chosen on your computer sheet.
Write small and space them out relatively evenly.
Step 5: Draw lines between terms that connect terms in some way. Every term has to be connected to one other
term at minimum and three other terms at maximum. Dont create an overly entangled web of connections because
youll need to concisely write on the lines.
Step 6: Briefly write how the two terms are connected. Write this on the line that connects the two terms.

(This may be done on the computer, if youd prefer.)

How Will I Be Graded?

Youll earn an A if you:

1) bring three separate sheets of computer paper, each with 25 terms bubbled on the sheet, and lines
connecting every term. In other words you will be graded on completion and legibility. If I cant read it,
youre not going to earn an A.

2) return to class on the first day of return after break prepared to:
a) Defend why you chose the 25 terms that you chose?
b) Compare your unit webs with other students who did the same unit in order to notice similarity
or difference.
