Students will lean to apply the skills and knowledge in this unit to solve other global issues.

Targets:

Grade 10 students in Beijing Royal School

Time:

45 minutes/ 1 period

Procedures:

1) Students are volunteered to share what they learned through the practice of their action

plan. What are the things they have done well, and what are the things that they have

overlooked in their planning and preparation? If possible, teacher could prepare some

certificates for each group regarding their unique outstanding characteristics, like most

expressive group, most collaborative group, and most effective group, etc.

2) The teacher then summarizes the five phases of PBI model. Students will recall and

summarize what they have done in each phase in this Unit Learning.

3) The teacher would wrap up the skills and strategies learned in studying the issue of Lotte

Store and THAAD. A Google Doc could be created and shared to all students to make a
summary of the skills and methods used in this unit. Then, the teacher should let students

know that the skills and methods learned in this Unit Learning are applicable to other

global issues. Students could think about such questions to make their summary.

# How can we develop thorough understanding and rational reaction to global issues?

# What kinds of skills and thinking logic have we learned and used in forming our opinion

and response?

# What should we be cautious in spreading our voices in public?

# Is there anything that we ignored in the Unit Learning?

# To be added by students

4) The teacher could give a mini-lesson about how we can apply the case study of Lotte Store

and THAAD to other global issues.

# Students have to be aware that there are various sides and perspectives for one certain

issue. The cosmopolitanism proves that it is acceptable to have diverse voices around the

world.

# Knowing and analyzing others voices is fundamental and essential for people to form a

better understanding of the issue.

# Peoples opinion on the issue should be based on sound reasons and support.

# Internet has provided people with a large, instant, and convenient source of information

all around the world. Students should learn to benefit from this digital tool. But at the

same time, they have to hold a doubtful and critical mind toward the information.
# Students should learn to provide qualified and constructive feedbacks to peers and learn

to benefit from others feedbacks. Collaborative learning should be greatly emphasized in

todays classroom.

# People are free to express their opinion in public places to let more people know their

voice, as long as the opinion is reasonable and appropriate for public presentation. During

this process, a lot of skills could be practiced and practiced, such as presentation skills,

communicative ability, empathy, advocacy ability, adaptability, being inclusive and open

to differences, etc. All these skills and abilities are necessary in dealing with complex

global issues. The sharing process is a good way to testify ones opinion and argument

through practice.

5) The advisor for each group could share what they observed in the practice, to provide

encouraging feedback and evaluative suggestions for further PBI Unit.

6) The Rubrics of evaluation will be handed out and filled out by each student.

7) The final assignment of this Unit Learning is to write a summary paper about what

students have learned from this Unit and how they can use it in other global issues. The

assignment can be done in various creative forms, and making use of digital tools is

strongly recommended.
