2 Introduction Activity Students will enter the classroom and take their seats quietly while How Far Ill Go from Moana plays in the background Crayon bins will already be placed on the table, but once the students are seated, the teacher will pass out blank white paper to each student 8 First Round of Drawing Ask the students to draw what they think the song is about, encourage them to listen to key words that they hear, and ask them to also consider how the song makes them feel (Is it happy, sad, angry?) Play How Far Ill Go again while they draw and color Once most of the students are done coloring, have them turn their paper over and ask them to now draw what their reactions are to When Somebody Loved Me from Toy Story 2 With a new sheet of paper, repeat this process once more while playing the song Be Prepared from The Lion King 10 Sharing Ask the class for volunteers to come to the front of the room to share all three of their drawings As they hold up their pictures, have them share what they drew on their paper, and why they drew it (The first is happy, the second is sad, and the third is angry) Allow students in the whole class to raise their hands and form a discussion about the similarities and differences in their drawings (They will most likely be very familiar with these songs) After they share and discuss, bring out big sheets of paper for each table group and explain that they are now going to work as a group to make one big drawing for the next songs that they are about to hear 8 Second Round of Drawing Play Swan Lake Waltz by Tchaikovsky and have the students quietly discuss what they hear, and collaborate on their artwork When they have gotten some ideas on their paper, begin to play the second piece, Pavane by Faure The last piece is Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner 2 For Next Time Ask the students to put their crayons away quietly As they are cleaning up, tell them that next class they will share their final group drawing and that we will be talking about what music does for our creative minds Remind them that the songs will be put into folders on their iPads and online so that they may listen outside of class
