Two workers were doing
drilling work on concrete
wall and found to be
working for long hours
without frequent breaks
and job rotation. This long
term exposure to the
vibration of the
equipment can lead them
to Hand-arm vibration
syndrome which have
symptoms like Vibration
white finger, nerve
damage, muscle
weakening and joint
damage.
On the other side of the
construction site one
worker is doing drilling
without wearing safety
face shield. Long time
drilling can cause over
heating of drilling bit and
the bit can broke in to
pieces which may ejected
to face and other body
parts. this can cause
cuts, wounds etc.
A vehicle was reversing
without the help of
banksman and it has no
audible reversing alarm
to warn the people.
Workers are carrying
cement bags weighted
40kg manually for a
distance approximately
20m.Manual handling
involves repetitive
movements of large load
can cause back injury,
muscle injury, work
related upper limb
disorders etc.
Wooden materials for
construction purpose
were founded to be
stacked improperly
without proper barricades
and have sharp pointed
nails on it. The wooden
material may fall on to
people and can cause
wounds, dislocation and
broken bones etc.

The lift that is used to

carry construction
material to different
floors has un protected
edges. This can cause
people falling, objects
falling.
Welding works were going
on the southern corner of
the second floor without
fire retardant blanket and
I found the fuel storage
house just beneath the
southern side of the
building. There is a high
chance of fire and
explosion if the wind carry
spark or slag down wards.
Welding emits fumes that
contain potentially
harmful complex metal
oxide compounds. When
workers inhaled these for
long time increases the
risk of occupational
asthma and cancer.
Fire watcher was not
present in the area of
welding. This increases
the risk of fire because he
is the one who is
responsible for the post
work checks to ensure
that there are no
smoldering embers
present in the area where
welding activities are
finished.
The earthing system is
found to be done on a
place that is completely
dry because of hot
weather condition. Most
of the soil is very poor
conductors of electricity
when they are completely
dry. This increases the
risk of electric shock and
damage of the electrical
equipments.
No proper fencing around
the construction site was
found and access points
to the site have no secure
gates. This may lead
members of public to
take short cuts through
the site and over time
they will raise voice for
right of way.
Vehicles are entering and
leaving the construction
site through the same
way. This can lead to
vehicles collision,
Bottlenecking of the
vehicles and traffic
congestion.
Three workers are working
on a scaffolding platform
on the third floor of the
construction site without
wearing safety harness.
This will increase the risk
of people falling from the
scaffolding platform and
they might get injured.
On the second floor of the
building one worker is
working near the edge of
the building without hook
his safety harness above
his chest level. This can
lead to falling of the
person from the second
floor to ground level and
even death can happen in
this case.
Collective protective
systems like safety nets
and airbags was not
found anywhere on the
site. This will increase the
distance and
consequences of falling of
people and objects can
fall on to people from
height.
One lady is found to be
resting during break time
near the reverse rotating
fan that have no safety
guard with long loose
hair. These reverse
rotating fans used to pull
out hot air from the
building are rotating at
good speed and there is a
chance for entanglement
of her hair with rotating
blades of the fan.
Cement mixer in the
construction site is
working with very loud
noise and workers are
working nearby without
ear protection. This high
level exposure to noise
increases the risk of
physical damage of
hearing mechanism
which can lead to
permanent loss of
hearing or industrial
deafness.
