NATURE OF WORK

Supervise the maintenance and repair of rail and highway bridges and manage division
activities.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


(Including, but not limited to the following)

Assign and supervise the work of crews engaged in the maintenance and repair of bridges,
including deck overlays, retaining walls, etc.
Make routine inspections of bridges as to their condition, strength and safety.
Coordinate work activities with a variety of Public Works divisions on City owned bridges and
negotiate with other public and private entities on the maintenance of safe structures not owned
by the City.
Do cost estimates of time and materials required for bridge maintenance jobs.
Maintain all records and make reports related to activities supervised.
Order tools, equipment and materials need for maintenance and repair.
Monitor work in progress to ensure quality and resolve problems.
Handle complaints and implement corrective actions.
Facilitate regularly schedules safety meetings to ensure that rules and practices are enforced.
Verify and approve all personnel time records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Five years experience in bridge maintenance and repair

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Valid Drivers License

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS

Through knowledge of construction.


Considerable knowledge of material strengths, construction methods and practices, and the
maintenance and care of bridge building equipment.
Working knowledge of computers.
Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others.
Ability to work from sketches and blueprints.
Ability to work at heights.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Office and field with some exposure to the elements, chemicals,
toxic fumes and heights.
