In 2004 Family & Community Services Ministry of Social Development established

Settling In, an initiative to help migrants settle successfully in New Zealand. In the 2005
Settling In Nelson-Tasman report isolation and settling into a new community and
making friends were three of the issues identified. To address this problem the first
Settling in supported Newcomers Network was set up under the auspices of the Nelson
Multicultural Council in 2006., and it led to develpoment of web portal called
Newcomers Network. It will help me in settling into New Zealand, with finding a
home, a job, schools for children, making new friends, understanding the language,
accents and finding the confidence and support.

There is another web portal named, Kiwi Families, a trusted parenting website for
more than 10 years. It provide help with free tips, tools and advice from some of the
best New Zealand parenting experts, to help grow great families in New Zealand. I
strongly believe by growing great families together, we grow a great community
together. And it really does take a community to raise a child. There are thousands of
parents out there just like us which are connected through this website and all have the
common fears, and enjoy the common successes.

Another way to connect socially is through joining various councils & communities
under umbrella of New Zealand Federation of Multicultural councils The New
Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils Inc. was established in July 1989 as an
incorporated, non-government body, which acts as an umbrella organisation for the
ethnic communities of New Zealand. The Federation's primary role is to promote,
support and share information among the Regional Councils and New Zealand's Ethnic
Communities.
Apart for all these websites and portals there are several social media pages and groups
to help me socially connect with people like New to New Zealand Facebook page, New
zealand Meet up groups, etc.

Answer: There are several housing options in New Zealand Suburban homes, Rural
living, Aparments, Flats & Townhouses. There are two options for housing either renting
or buying. We will start our housing journey by renting. That way we can take time
seeing whats available and where we would like to live before making a commitment.

The building & Housing Group within Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
gives advice & guidance about all rental tenancies in New Zealand. Also there are some
websites like- TradeMe property which help in finding suitable renting accomdation
available in New Zealand.

Also during my research on Housing market in New Zealand, I found that renting
depends upon quality, location and size of the property. Acording to MBIE & rental
websites, average rental for a 1-2 bedroom home is around 350-450 NZD a week.
Central suburb of Auckland is around 400-420 NZD per week and Wellington is around
300-350 NZD a week.

Question 17: What do you know about general cost of living in New Zealand

According to an independent international survey Auckland ranked 61st in the world in

terms of its cost of living, and Wellington 83rd, as compared to other major cities like
Singapore ; Hong Kong; New York ; London.

The general cost of living is sum total of costs of housing, food,

transportation, education, entertainment, personal care, health and clothing.

New Zealand has GST tax that currently applies at 15% that is added to the price of
most things you buy. It doesnt apply to rent on a home, apartment, flat or other
accommodation. It also doesnt apply to financial transactions, like bank charges, or to
income. Apart from that the governments Statistics Department has a publication
called New Zealand in Profile which lists the prices of some common purchases &
commodoties. Every three years or so New Zealand government Statistics Department
surveys what households are actually spending and we can get an understanding or
view of average New Zealand weekly household budget.

So according to information provided by my friends and research that I have conducted

the total net cost of living is approximately is between 1000-1200 NZD per week.
Various types of costs that amount to cost of living can be understood by going through
various websites. Food costs are around NZ$91-109 a week according to survey
conducted by university of Otago.

Accommodation costs are around 350-450 NZD per week and or a quick overview,
check New Zealands very popular, privately owned TradeMe site.

Vehicle costs: Most people in New Zealand find they need a car. Many buy their cars
second hand. Privately-operated TradeMe Motors can give you a good idea of what used
cars cost here. An annual expense involved with owning a car is the vehicle license or
registration (rego). Registration costs vary according to the cars make and its age. As
an example however registration for a late model, petrol engined Ford Focus 2L
currently costs NZ$271.27. All cars also need to be tested for a Warrant of Fitness. That
will cost you NZ$50-80 (not including any repairs that may be necessary). How often
you need to have your car tested will depend on the age of the car. If you choose a
diesel engine car, you will also pay road user charges (RUC) which are calculated per
kilometre.

Insurance costs : To get an idea of the costs of life, health, income and mortgage
insurance, privately operated TradeMe has a site where you can source quotes from a
range of providers.

Utilities: The energy website of New Zealands leading consumer organisation has a lot
of information about energy providers and their charges.

good rental accomdation and also they are part of some communities which will support
me for any issue or obstacles I faced. So there is support for me in New Zealand

Question 20: Are there any other people is able to support you in finding
skilled employment?

Answer: I have contacted the some of recruiter and they did mention once you have
