Learning Objective: -I can identify a variety of careers Materials Needed: -Computer (Small Potatoes video K; Career Day and Paws In Jobland 1st and 2nd Grade) -Name that Career and Career Bubbles Worksheets -Crayons/Markers Formative Assessment: Kindergarten students will be given clues to a specific career and will have to use those clues to identify what the career is. They will also be given a letter of the alphabet and they will have to come up with a career that starts with that letter; 1st and 2nd Grade students will take a career interest survey and explore jobs based on the results of their survey Lesson Preparation: Essential Questions: 1. What careers can you identify? 2. What are the job roles and responsibilities for specific careers Engagement/Hook: Students will watch the video Small Potatoes (K) and Career Day (1st and 2nd) Instructional Procedures: Counselor(s): 1. Counselor will explain to students that our topic for today is careers 2. Counselor will ask students to answer essential questions listed above. 3. Counselor will inform students that they are going to watch a video about careers. 4. After the video, counselor will engage students in a discussion about the video and the various careers that they saw that they could identify. 5. Counselor will then explain the activity to the students. - Kindergarten students will receive a worksheet with 4 clues on it about careers. They will have to use the clues to identify the career that it matches. - Kindergarten students will then receive a bubble with a letter typed in the middle of it. They will have to come up with a career that starts with that letter and draw a picture of it in the bubble. - 1st and 2nd grade students will explore in the internet career website titled Paws in Jobland. 2nd grade students will be instructed to first take the career inventory quiz and then explore that jobs that match the results of their quiz. Students: 1.Students will listen as counselor explains the topic for the day. 2. Students will participate in the discussion about the essential questions listed above. 3. Students will watch the career videos 4. Students will participate in the video discussion. 5. Students will complete their activity based on grade level: -Kindergarten careers clues and career bubbles -1st and 2nd grade Paws in Jobland
