Research Proposal
1. Which type of professional athlete out of Baseball, Basketball, and Football is most
physically impacted by their sport post career? I plan to consider many different aspects
of athletes post-career. For example the life expectancy of the athletes compared to the
other. I will try to find charts and data that give a detailed life expectancy of each
professional athlete. Then I could look into how injuries such as concussions affect them
and their mental state. This will involve looking into research done on concussions within
all the three sports I have previously mentioned. After that is said I could dig a little
deeper looking into athletes who did not have problems during their career but are having
problems now. An example of this could be a baseball player having a great career then
having to have knee surgery because he was a catcher and always squatted. I could also
look at a basketball player and how his knees were affected in the sport. When I am able
to gather enough information and conclude which athletes are most physically impacted I
will wrap my paper up with that. The information should be clear enough to make a
successful conclusion on which one is the worst/best for physical impact. My goal is to
try and inform my reader on the impact of professional sports while also putting each one
on a scale and ranking them from the worst physical impact to the best. This will
hopefully show the readers the toll that professional athletes take to their health.
