Unit Title: Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities Name: Jessica Gonzalez
Content Area: Math-Algebra I Grade Level: 9th
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):
Understand solving equations as a process of reasoning and explain the reasoning.
1. Solve equations and inequalities in one variable.
3. Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients represented by letters.
4. Solve quadratic equations in one variable.
5. Prove that, given a system of two equations in two variables, replacing one equation by the sum of that equation and
a multiple of the other produces a system with the same solutions.

Big Ideas/Unit Goals:

Students will be able to explain each step in solving a simple question.
Students will be able to solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable and with coefficients represented by
letters.
Students will be able to use methods to solve for variables.
Students will be able to use one equation and substitute it into another equation to solve for solutions.

Unit Summary:
This unit, students will be able to solve linear equations with numerous variables in any method they prefer. Students will learn
different methods given to solve variables. They will be able to get their solutions and plug it back into the equations to make
sure the equations stand. Students will build communication skills, social skills, and knowledge skills all at the same time in one
lecture. Students will use their lectures and notes as a guide to answer the homework problems. The main focus of this unit is
developing strategies to solve problems with unknowns. In order to achieve the goals, students will take notes, participate in
different activities during class and complete homework and assignments that will be presented.
