TEDstatesthataglobalcitizenissomeonewhoselfidentifies,notasamemberofa

state,tribe,ornation,butasamemberofthehumanraceandispreparedtoactonthat

belief.Ialsofoundonlinethatitisdescribedassomeonewhoidentifieswithbeingpart

ofanemergingworldcommunityandwhoseactionscontributetobuildingthis

communitysvaluesandpractices.Relatingthisdefinitiontowhatwassaid,itisthesame

definitionbutthatcommunityisthehumanrace.
2.) Whyaresomepeoplesuspiciousofglobalcitizenshipand/orglobalization?
Ithinksomepeoplearesuspiciousbecauseitisoutoftheircomfortzoneandwhatthey

areusedto.Thesepeopleareusuallyusedtonuclearcitizenship,whichisthesmalltown,

smallcommunityinsteadofhoweverythingaffectstheentireglobe.
3.) Howmightthisdebatefinditswayintotheclassroom?
Ithinkthiscouldfinditswaytotheclassroombybeingdiscussedhoweverythingcan

impacttheglobalcommunity,notjustthenuclearcommunity.Itismoreofahighschool

topic;notsomuchforkindergarteners.Itcouldbeintroducedtothemthoughby

explainingtheaffectsthingshaveontheworldandnotjustthecommunitytheylivein.
2.Studentsmustlearntomanageavastamountofinformation.Theauthormentionsthe

acronymMIVA.WhatdoesMIVArepresent?Giveanexample.

MIVAistheskillsofmanaging,interpreting,validating,andactingoninformation.

Additionally,itisthewillingnesstothinkoutsideoftheboxtocomeupwithnewsolutions.You

cannotexpectyourstudentstobeconsciousandinventiveifasateacheryoudonotshowthese

qualities,aswell.Asstatedinthebook,itisvitaltohelpstudentsdevelopwaysofthinkingand

knowingtheworldbyhelpingthemrefinetheirabilitiestocollaborate,whichistheir

metacognitiveskills.

3.Howcangamingbeusedtopotentiallychangeeducation?WhatwasYOURfavorite

videogame?Whathaveyoulearnedfromit?

MytwofavoritegamesasachildwereOregonTailandSuperMunchers.Ilearnedquite

abitfrombothgamesalthoughtheywerenotnecessarilyvideogames,butinteractivegameson

thecomputerweplayedintheclassroom.Iwasneverafanofvideogames,unlikemybrother

andhisfriends.Ididsomeresearchonlineaboutthepositiveimpactthatvideogamescanplayin

achildslife.Videogamesimprovecriticalthinkingskillsandreadingcomprehension.Sincethe

gameisintriguingtothemandtheyareinterestedinthegameitself,thematerialbecomes

relevanttothemandengagesthemintothegame,whichsupportslongtermretention.Theyalso

havepositiveeffectsonplayersofallages,especiallythosewithmentaloremotionalproblems,

wherethegameisquitetherapeutictothem.Thegameshelpthemescapefromtherealworld

andgivetheirmindsarest,whichiscriticalforemotionalandmentalwellbeing.Videogames

arealsogreatforindividualizedlearningbecausethegamescanbetailoredbasedonthe

studentsperformanceandpreferences.Thegameshouldbesomethingthechildisinterestedin,
resultinginthechildbeingengaged.Ialsoresearchedandfoundthatvideogameshelpgauge

childrenscognitivedevelopmentandfacilitateindividualizedlearning.

realcommunity?Inwhatwaysisanonlinecommunitysimilartoaclassroomcommunity?

Howisitdifferent?

Factorsthathelpanonlinegroupfunctionasarealcommunityaretheeaseofabilityto

shareideas(whetherornotyoucanworktogethereasilyfacetoface).Itiseasiertogetalong

withsomeoneonlinethanitcanbewhenyouhavetoworktogetherinperson.Theonline

communitycanbeamorediversegroupsincetheycanbefromanywherearoundtheworld.This

canopenupnewideasthatcanbediscussedintheonlineprogram.

Therearequiteafewdifferencesbetweenonlinecommunitiesandclassroom

communities.Theonlinecommunityismoreflexiblethanthatofaclassroomsetting.The

disciplinebetweenthetwoisvast.Foronlineclasses,onemustbeselfmotivated,whileinthe

traditionalclassroom,onecangainthemotivationthroughdisciplinetheyreceiveinthe

classroom.Learningthroughonlinevideocanhelpthestudentfocusmoreonindependent

learningwithoutthesamedistractionsastraditional.Inthetraditionalclassroom,thereismore

facetofaceinteraction,butnodirectinstructionthatyoureceiveasanonlinestudent.

andfindguestspeakers.Iwasreallyimpressedwiththisresourceandwillbeusingthisinthe

classroominthefuture.Ireallyenjoyedthevirtualfieldtripwherethechildrengettogoonan

adventurewithoutevenleavingtheclassroom.Thiswillengagethestudentsandtheywillhave

funwhilelearning,whichisextremelyimportant.
